When Alex was introduced to musical instruments, he had a natural talent that allowed him to pick the skill up rather quickly.

When Hirsch sent Alex into studios to learn how to play instruments, the instructors told the actor that his son had no interest in learning how to play according to someone else; he wanted to improvise.
