Kelly Clarkson Criticized for Getting ‘Fat’ since Her 20’s — Now in Her 40’s, She Accepts Her ‘Size’ after Divorce

Kelly Clarkson is the mother of two beautiful children, the host of one of the most loved talk shows, and an award-winning pop artist. Despite her successes, people always concentrate on her weight, but the singer does not let that affect her; instead, she hopes her changing body will be a lesson to others.

Kelly Clarkson has built an extensive portfolio since winning the first season of “American Idol.” She has sold millions of album copies, won awards for hosting “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” and even judged “The Voice.”

Clarkson has also never been afraid to share some of her life’s good and bad parts. But despite the singer’s transparency, she is constantly criticized for her looks. The talk show host said that she had been dealing with negative comments about her body since she was in her 20s.

When she broke into fame on “American Idol,” Clarkson was scolded for being too skinny, and now as her mother in her 40s, she is judged for being too big. So, when people try to bring her down, Clarkson clarified that this was no longer news since it has been constant for the past two decades of her life.

Instead of responding with negativity, Clarkson hopes that her experience of growing up on TV and her ever-changing body can be a reminder that bodies change when one gets older.

Therefore, she’s learning to love her body at any size because it carries her through her busy schedule. Additionally, Clarkson confessed that her weight fluctuation is so drastic that she keeps a wide range of sizes in her closet.

The singer said, “My body is an anomaly; it should be studied when I die. I can literally gain two sizes or lose two sizes from morning to lunch. It is the weirdest thing; it’s all inflammation, whatever.”

Kelly Clarkson On Being Criticized for Her Weight

Sadly, no matter how often Clarkson has opened up about her weight, she still receives the most hurtful comments about her appearance.

However, while internet users try to bring her down, Clarkson is proud of how much she achieved while she was at two extremes of her weight.

Clarkson expressed that at her heaviest, her TV show was ranked number one, and that was when she had just given birth to her children.

Her success was never based on sex appeal but on her personality and ability to connect with people, so while the internet tries to define her by weight, her talent does not.

But as an artist, she has realized that she needs to remember that capabilities are not based on her looks and hopes that other people in the industry will remember that.

Still, Twitter users continue to make snark comments about Clarkson’s high rankings and her weight. One user thought she was “overweight and overrated.”

When Clarkson had the renowned rapper Snoop Dogg on her show, people did not fail to point out how big she looked compared to her time on “American Idol.”

The singer was labeled as a fat woman with a show, but as if that was not enough, people acted shocked at her size even after publicly speaking about her ups and downs with weight.

Nonetheless, people can come for her all they want; Clarkson is proud of all that she achieved and survived over the years and now that she’s in her 40s, she loves herself more.

Accepting and Loving Herself in her 40’s

Even though Clarkson has been strong through the turmoil of internet bullying, she admitted that the comments still affected her sometimes.

The singer confessed that it hurt more when she received it from people she knew or when she was genuinely excited to meet her fans. When she interacted with a fan expecting to talk about her music, it cut deep when her weight was the first thing mentioned.

Sometimes, Clarkson would have to watch someone she knew personally publicly make jokes and be part of the crowd that brought her down. But at the bottom of it all, she continues to be kind to herself and enjoys the different phases of her life.

The hitmaker realized that sometimes she’s fit, and some days are for indulging in a glass of wine or a good comfort meal. “We are who we are, whatever size,” she said.

Furthermore, while people obsess over her weight gain, Clarkson realizes that being smaller does not mean she is in a good space. She reiterated, “For me, when I’m skinny, it is usually when I’m not doing well. If you gauge your life on what other people think, you’re going to be in a constant state of panic trying to please everyone.”

So, she learned that she could not gauge her well-being according to the world rather than what is in her heart and what makes her happy.

Clarkson also survived a long and painful divorce. Her ex-husband Brendon Blackstock reportedly had to be legally taken out of their Montana home.

He was allegedly given a date to evacuate the home but tried to fight it until he finally left, which gave Clarkson a chance to sell the house.

However, besides the $115,000 alimony he will receive until 2024 and $45,601 child support for their two children, River and Remington, and although Clarkson has sole custody, he still managed to negotiate and get 5.1% of the sale of their Montana home.

Clarkson endured all the hits of her divorce and is now free to live a peaceful life with her children and open herself to love again.
