Kerry Voss married American journalist and news anchor John Berman in the early 2000s and raised a set of twins outside the public eye. Berman’s career in journalism began fortuitously when he relocated to be closer to his lover.

The CNN news anchor keeps his wife and children out of the media. Kerry Voss, his college sweetheart-turned-wife, was born on June 20, 1971, nine months before her husband. It has been established that she was born in Shelburne, Vermont, and her mother reportedly still resides in the northeast coastal state.

Surface analysis of the CNN anchor’s narration about his move to New York suggests that his girlfriend at the time, Voss, is mainly responsible for him becoming a journalist and, as it turned out, an employee at the colossal news network. She is also a Harvard University alum who graduated in 1995.

Kerry Voss Met Her Future Husband at Harvard

In the 1990s, the pair crossed paths while they attended Harvard University. Voss’s husband was an actor in the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, and while she was also a part of the Hasty Pubbing club, she participated in the costume department. Berman jokingly boasts that they first met at the club’s drag show.

It is reported that they purchased their house for $975,000.

“I’m one of the few people who can say they met their wife while doing a drag show,” the journalist bragged. The Hasty Pudding Theatrical, launched by students in a dorm room, is one of the three Hasty Pudding Institute clubs. The club’s participants take to the stage acting out highly entertaining original plays.

John Berman Moved to New York City to Be near Kerry Voss

The couple who began dating in college lived far apart from each other, and to decrease the distance between them after graduation, Berman moved to Voss’s city of residence, New York City. Berman also moved to The Big Apple to study at Columbia Law School.

He did not follow through with enrolling into Columbia Law School, deciding instead to take up an ABC News internship so he could cover the national elections in 1996. Berman became a researcher and eventually a writer for the ABC News program “World News Tonight.”

Voss’s husband began his life as a journalist, something utterly foreign to his plans at graduation. At ABC, a few unexpected changes among senior colleagues made him the head writer after three months. After some time, he became the off-air reporter for the 1996 George W. Bush election campaign.

The anchor was engulfed in his new job, providing beat journalists and his employers with the high-profile George W. Bush campaign updates as they happened. The only issue he faced at the time was the election process hindering his engagement plans. The news anchor added:

“The one thing it wasn’t great for is that I had always planned to ask my then-girlfriend to marry me after the election. Then, there was a freaking recount!”

The journalist did not let the all-important recount hinder his plans, proceeding to pop the question when the results were made public. He went on to wed Voss in July 2001 and used a July 2018 Facebook post to proudly share that he has been wearing his wedding ring for exactly 17 years.

Kerry Is a Mother of 2 Boys Who Are into Sports

Voss and her husband welcomed twins into their Westchester home in 2007. Unsurprisingly, Berman, the avid Red Sox fan and general sports fanatic, has a set of athletic twins. Voss’s sons are both into soccer and baseball, and her husband is also an assistant coach.

They do not publish photographs revealing their children’s faces, but Voss’s husband often shares sweet gestures and moments with his sons, like in 2015 when they left a note for her husband, who had possibly overslept. It’s safe to say the twin did not write the letter with the neatest handwriting.

Voss and her husband spend a lot of time with their kids, especially in recent years when his shift changed from the 4 a.m. news show to the 9 a.m. slot. This change left the CNN anchor energized in the evenings and enabled him to enjoy life in Westchester with his sons.

The twins share an extraordinary bond with their father, on and off the court. They send him cute gestures to motivate him and join him on exciting hiking adventures, like the one he shared on his Instagram on Father’s Day 2021. His CNN colleague Anderson Cooper thought he would never be a father and is now also a father of two.

Voss and her husband live with their sons in an Armonk, New York homebuilt in 1957. The home is located about 36 miles away from CNN’s Manhattan head office. It is reported that they purchased their house for $975,000.

With 3,595 square feet of Westchester land, the property’s value has increased to approximately $1,037,025, according to Zillow. Voss’s husband has green fingers and prides himself on the supreme maintenance of his lawn and garden.
