Hip-hop star Kevin Gates assumed fatherhood when many of his partners saw their lives confined to a jail cell. Although the rapper is a doting father to four biological children, he admittedly has several non-biological kids, although he prefers not to separate them that way.

Baton Rogue native Kevin Gates joined the hip-hop industry in the late 2000s, primarily releasing mixtapes, including “Pick of da Litter” and “All In.” In 2013, he released “Stranger Than Fiction,” a record that earned him a spot in the Top 40 of Billboard 200.

His first studio album, “Islah,” debuted at number two on the same chart three years later. Kevin has continued dishing out records well-received by his audience, including “Really Really,” “Two Phones,” and “Thinkin’ With My [Expletive],” which recently became a TikTok favorite.

He is known for his collaborations with fellow artists Kodak Black, Gucci Mane, Master P (father to musician Inty Miller), and Halle Bailey‘s lover DDG. But in addition to a rewarding career, Kevin is a doting father. While he has been upfront about fathering several children, the rapper has carefully guarded them against the limelight.

He wholeheartedly accepted the responsibility of looking after a large brood, and from his interviews, he appears to have taken pride in it. His role as a father and father figure has also influenced his career; the hitmaker said he plans to alter his explicit lyricism following a rather uncomfortable conversation with his 19-year-old.

Kevin Gates Has 2 Children with Dreka Gates

Kevin and his wife, Dreka Gates, had been together for over a decade before tying the knot in October 2015. The couple shares two children, their daughter Islah, ten, as of December 2022, and son Khaza, nine, as of May 2023. Both youngsters, who starred in their dad’s “Imagine That” 2017 music video, arrived via waterbirth.

In 2016, Dreka declared she was “big on all natural things,” especially regarding her kids. She and Kevin have avoided vaccinating Islah and Khaza, believing that organic foods would protect their kids’ immune systems. The two have also guarded Islah and Khaza’s privacy, only rarely showing the youngsters on their socials.

Kevin named his 2016 debut album after Islah, a year after naming a rather gruesome song after his son. “Khaza” came from his 2015 mixtape, “Murder for Hire,” and the lyrics featured graphic descriptions of violence toward an enemy’s kid. Fans were taken aback by “Khaza,” but the musical controversy doesn’t end there.

Last June, Kevin released “Super General Freestyle,” revealing a lover’s infidelity and adding that the said the lover had a child with another man. Many assumed he was talking about Dreka, while others thought perhaps it was a former flame. Since the speculation began, Dreka and Kevin have yet to address it.

Kevin admitted to having two children from two different women two weeks apart during a July 2014 interview. One of the mothers is a former girlfriend, while the other was his best friend. Kevin developed strong romantic feelings for the latter, even getting her name tattooed.

Despite being acquainted through what used to be a love triangle, he said the mothers were “cordial” with one another. Last November, he opened up about a “crushing” conversation with his 19-year-old daughter, where she talked about her sex life.

Kevin revealed some of the sexual acts the teen confessed to engaging in, leading the rapper to reconsider the sexual content of his music. “My daughter talking about she eat [expletive] and [expletive]. I’m serious. I had to listen to that [expletive] (sic),” the rapper lamented.

Kevin Gates Says He Has a Lot of Children, and Not Only Biological

In 2015, Kevin spoke about his kids though he didn’t specify how many of them were non-biological, revealing, “I got partners that got life sentences at a young age, and I had to step up to the plate and take care of their children. I’ve always been a caretaker of young people.” In an interview two years prior, he said he shared a close bond with all of them.
