Social Media Users Accused Kit Connor of Queerbaiting

In 2022, Connor experienced backlash from social media users, who accused him of queerbaiting — a word used to define a straight person nodding at queerness — after he was photographed holding hands with actress Maia Reficco.

He admitted to feeling more “annoyingly” self-conscious about dating a girl.

Following the accusations, Connor took to Twitter to set the record straight about his sexuality. He came out as bisexual, scolding “Hearstopper” — co-starring Yasmin Finney — viewers for “forcing” him to out himself.

Kit Connor Wished He Could Have Came Out as Bisexual in a Different Way

Since releasing the tweet that confirmed his sexuality, during an interview, Connor looked back at the ordeal and admitted that his actions had been a bit rash. As a young star, the actor was not used to being in the public eye and having people always watching him.

Instead, he was still getting used to people taking an interest in his personal life, which left him wishing he could have handled the situation differently. He said:

“I think ‘forced’ isn’t the right word […], but I would say that I would have preferred to do it another way. I also don’t know if I would have ever done it. But at the end of the day, I don’t regret it. In many ways, it was really empowering.”

Kit Connor Is Not Interested in Putting Labels on Himself

During an interview, Kit Connor opened up about labels and shared that he found it “interesting” and “problematic” that people still made assumptions about other people’s sexualities based on how they looked or spoke in 2022. He continued:

“I’m perfectly confident and comfortable with my sexuality, but I don’t feel the need to… I’m not too big on labels and things like that. I’m not massive about that.”

The actor added that it was important to make people aware that young people are still grappling with their sexuality and warned them against pressuring individuals into coming out when they are not ready.
