Kristin Davis’ “Sex in the City” character, Charlotte York Goldenblatt, is a hopeless romantic, often in pursuit of finding the right man. While Charlotte gets her happily ever after and ties the knot, the same can not be said for Kristin.

Growing up, Kristin was told that marriage should be a priority and done the soonest as possible. Everyone talked about it in the South, where she grew up. However, Kristin was focused on her career and progress in the entertainment industry.

“[In my 20s], I thought I’d never get married. I guess I was right!” the actress said. “All I wanted was to move to New York and do theater, and in my 30s, I was busy doing [‘Sex and the City’], so I just didn’t have time.”

Although she entered serious relationships, none got her to walk down the aisle. Often, her independence would manifest itself, showing that she has stability within herself, even without the relationship.

Despite not getting married, Kristin didn’t see marriage as a gateway to motherhood. She knew she wanted to become a mom and did so at the right time.

It wasn’t the actress who picked her daughter; it was Gemma’s birth mother who chose Kristin.

Through adoption, she had her first child in her 40s and her second one in her 50s. Looking back, the Hollywood star has no regrets, as she knew she wasn’t ready before adopting. Kristin adopted her daughter, Gemma Rose Davis, in 2011 and her son, Wilson Davis, in 2018.

At 38, Davis began to feel the need to become a mother through adoption. In what she called a “spiritual” experience, she felt there was a child she needed to find, who she would call her own.

When the adoption process began, she began to know more about herself. During an interview on “Red Table Talk,” Kristin revealed that her adoption paper questionnaire had several questions that protected the child’s wellbeing.

Based on her answers, the children in need of love were narrowed down, but still, it wasn’t the actress who picked her daughter; it was Gemma’s birth mother who chose Kristin. Since adopting her first child, the “And Just Like That” star’s life has changed in more ways than one. She said:

“Like take going to work: it used to be really important to me, but now I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ve got to go to work. All right.’ I used to be like, ‘I want to go to work, I want to go to work!”

Kristin Davis Adopted Another Black Child and Faced Discrimination

Before adopting Wilson, Gemma told her mother she wanted a Black baby brother. Soon, Kristin reached out to the adoption agency that facilitated her previous process, and she became a mother to two Black children.

Kirstin has since adjusted her life to accommodate her children. She teaches them about racism and other issues they may face while building their strength and confidence.

The actress doesn’t share much about her son, wanting to keep her family from the spotlight. However, she was open about Gemma’s role as a big sister, noting that the young girl is a big help when caring for Wilson.

During a 2020 interview with “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” Kristin also revealed that raising a boy differed from caring for a daughter. Admittedly, Wilson was sometimes chaotic at home and would throw anything and everything out of curiosity.

Kristin is well aware that her kids are African-Americans who have different needs. As a doting mom, she ensures they have access to the Black community and are always connected to their culture. Unfortunately, part of being a colored person is being prone to discrimination.

The actress previously saw her daughter being treated differently because of her color. The first time was when Gemma was still a baby, and a stranger commented that Gemma would grow up to be a great basketball player.

Another time Kristin saw discrimination was when her daughter lined up to use a swing in a predominantly white playground, and the white child using the swing held it for another white kid.

Kristin Davis Keeps Her Children Away from the Spotlight

The Hollywood veteran also adjusted her work schedule for her children. She previously revealed that she would fly home every weekend while filming the “Sex and the City” reboot to spend more time with her kids. Kristin said:

“It wasn’t the plan, necessarily. I thought, ‘Oh, you know, maybe they could come to see me, or maybe I could skip a weekend […]. I would never say yes to a job where I was gone that long unless it was this job.”

Motherhood has been wonderful for Kristin, and she wouldn’t trade it for anything else. As for tying the knot, she seems happy with her decision to focus on kids despite having friends with stable marriages.

Previously, the “Law & Order: SVU” star faced online criticism for having a Black daughter as a white woman. However, Hargitay addressed critics by saying she came from a family with an unorthodox setup. Having a stepmother and half-siblings, she knows families can be built in different ways.
