Luckily for Neeson, Richardson’s marriage to Fox was already crumbling and ending. However, the duo did not define their relationship until after Richardson’s 30th birthday.

Neeson had given the actress a card from “Schindler’s List” with a write-up that Richardson did not find romantic. So, the latter decided to be straightforward, and she asked Neeson about the nature of their relationship.

At that point, the actor said he knew he had fallen in love with Richardson and had to protect that love. By the summer of 1994, Neeson and Richardson were married on a farm in Upstate New York.

On June 22, 1995, the couple welcomed their first child, Michael. They celebrated the arrival of their second son Daniel on August 27, 1996.

However, the actress insisted that she was okay and declined any medical assistance at the hospital. In no distant time, she left the hospital for her hotel room.

Unfortunately, by 2:59 p.m., the paramedics received a second call, and in under ten minutes, the ambulance arrived. According to reports, Richardson was awake, but something was not right with her orientation.

Paramedics rushed the actress to a hospital in Sainte Agathe, but sadly, they did not have enough equipment to handle such a situation. So, Richardson was transferred to a Montreal Trauma center, where they confirmed the actress was brain dead.

Before she passed away, Neeson made sure to tell Richardson how much he loved her. After that, his last words were, “Sweetie; you’re not coming back from this; you’ve banged your head.”

Neeson was not the only one gravely affected by Richardson’s death. It was more terrifying for the actor’s sons, Michael and Daniel, who were only teenagers at the time.

Michael explained that for him, processing the situation was very difficult because it was sudden. As reported by Today from The Times in U. K in March 2021, the young man’s words were:

“When it’s unexpected, and it’s just a complete freak accident, it really sort of messes with your mind, whether you believe in fate or not.”

“It can send you for a bit of a head spin, and so you just latch on to the tiny little memories, whether it’s her laugh or her energy in the room or her cooking. I do have her films to go back and watch her in, which I’m incredibly grateful for,” he gushed.
