THE LONELY OLDER WOMAN

Living alone can sometimes be daunting, especially for older people. With nobody to help around the house, managing everything on your own, from cooking and cleaning the house to maintaining a tidy lawn, might be challenging.

In 2015, an older woman from Riesel, Texas, found herself amidst similar circumstances. Gerry Suttle was 75 then and lived alone, with no one else to share her load or help her with everyday tasks.

SUTTLE ON THE BRINK OF GOING TO JAIL

A local law banned the city residents from letting their grass grow taller than 18 inches (45 centimeters). The lonely older woman faced difficulty in keeping her lawn tidy.

After some time, the police issued her a notice to appear in court. But Suttle claimed she never received the notice and didn’t know the court had summoned her.

When they didn’t hear from her, the cops issued Suttle’s arrest warrant, and the elderly lady was on the brink of going to jail. Soon, the news spread across the town and eventually reached four young brothers who were on their summer break.

LENDING A HELPING HAND

The Reynolds brothers didn’t know Suttle but knew precisely what they had to do. The young boys brought a lawnmower to Suttle’s house and began cutting the grass and weeds without second thoughts. One of the boys, Blaine Reynolds, revealed:

“It’s a summer day, we don’t have season passes yet to Hawaiian Falls. What else could we do but go out and help some people.”

Convincing teenagers to help outside during the summer holidays might involve an attractive incentive or absolute magic. Still, these youngsters proved that inner motivation is all one needs to engage in good deeds.

THE OLDER LADY’S PRICELESS REACTION

Blaine later expressed that he and his brothers felt driven to help Suttle, and mowing her lawn was the least they could do. Other community members also joined the four brothers, and within two hours, the entire lawn was mowed.

When Suttle saw the boys working on her lawn, she was reduced to tears and knew they did much more than lawn care. It turned out the boys mowed her lawn to keep her out of jail. A teary-eyed Suttle shared:

“I am very seldom without words. This is one time. You might want to mark it down in history that I didn’t have something to say.”

THE KIND-HEARTED BOYS

The older lady hugged the boys and thanked them for their kindness. Brandon Reynolds mentioned that he didn’t want Suttle to pay someone to mow her lawn when he and his brothers could do it for free.

According to sources, Suttle received another court summons in June 2015, and the Reynolds brothers once again offered to help ease her woes and keep her out of trouble. Blaine further added:

“I’d do it for her a second time, or a third time. Anything to keep that lady from having to go to court.”

Undoubtedly, the four brothers were raised right, and their parents and everyone must be so proud of them for helping Suttle. Stories like this melt our hearts and rekindle our souls with hope and love.
