A man has been arrested after shots were fired at homes during a “targeted attack” in a town near Wakefield

A 32-year-old has been arrested in connection with firearms discharges at a property on Langthwaite Lane, South Elmsall, on January 18 and properties on Trueman Way and Wesley Street on January 21. He is currently in custody.

There continues to be an increased neighbourhood policing presence in the area to provide reassurance to the wider community. Two houses were shot at on Sunday January 21.

These firearms discharges are being linked to an earlier incident on Thursday, January 18. All three incidents are being treated by police as ‘targeted attacks’. Police received a report at 9.50pm last night that shots had been fired at a house on Trueman Way. No one was injured in this incident.

A further report was received at 9.53pm, reporting an arson attack on a house in Wesley Street. The house was occupied at the time, but all occupants were able to get out of the property safely. Evidence was later found a firearm had also been discharged at this address.
