Man Falls For Woman Who Still Takes Care Of Her Ex — He Accepts Him As His Own Child

A woman revealed the incredible story of marrying her high school sweetheart before he became disabled and they divorced. She remained his primary carer even after marrying her second husband, who saw her first one as their child.

A TikTok user with the username followmetothemouse/Kris took to the platform to share the incredible story of how she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart before marrying someone else. Kris, who described herself as a Disney adult and vacation planner, said she was 16 and Brandon was 15 when they met in high school.

Along with the narrated story were pictures that showed the couple together over the years. The poster confessed that she and Brandon fell in love and shared all the makings of a great love story, with inside jokes, handwritten notes, and hand-burned CDs.

On August 12, 2006, the duo married, but two years later, Brandon had a bad car accident at age 23 while his wife was 24 and spent two months in a coma due to his severe brain injury. The accident left him needing complete care with things like eating, getting dressed, or using the toilet.

Another side effect of the accident was that he struggled to communicate and had short-term memory issues. Kris spent two years grieving and facing the heartbreak of losing the man she once loved but decided to move on because:

“I longed for a family, children, a partner.”

However, that didn’t mean she no longer loved Brandon, and to honor her wedding vows to love and care for him through sickness and health, Kris spent almost 15 years being his legal guardian and advocate. Their relationship changed at one point after the accident, and he started calling her “little sis” out of the blue.

Kris also sees him as a brother instead of her husband, and she promises to always carry his heart in hers. In a follow-up clip, the TikTok user explained how she became Brandon’s legal guardian by getting a lawyer who dealt with such issues to play that role for a year.

Her divorce attorney aunt helped Kris end her marriage to Brandon without his input because he is incapacitated. After the year, the poster proved to a probate judge that she wished to continue caring for her soon-to-be ex-husband by advocating for him, caring for him, taking him to doctor’s appointments and therapy, and visiting almost daily.

A year after going through the divorce, Kris returned to probate court to serve papers to Brandon’s next of kin to allow them to fight for legal guardianship, but no one contested. The judge wanted to know what would happen if the poster decided to have her own family and children outside of her ex-husband.

Kris vowed that nothing would change and she’d continue looking after Brandon until she died, hence winning legal guardianship over him. As predicted by the judge, the TikTok user did fall in love with another man.

In 2014, Kris met James online – his pictures were included in the TikTok update – and told him about Brandon and her role in his life. James thought the former couple’s story was beautiful, and he wanted to be a part of it!

He entered their relationship with a son that Kris fell in love with when she met him. The day after she met his son, James met Brandon, and they took him to church; after visiting the bathroom, Kris saw James’ arm lying comfortably around her ex-husband’s shoulder, saying:

“At that moment, I knew what my future held.”

For the first time that Christmas, Kris decorated for the holiday since Brandon’s accident, as James and his son had brought light into her life. The poster and James married, with her promising to love her stepson as her own, and he vowed to love Brandon as his.

The poster knew from that day onward that the pair had a connection. In another clip, Kris showed how her children with James loved and interacted with Brandon by drawing him pictures, with the little girl hugging her “uncle Brandon” at the end of the video.

Due to having many TikTok users curious to find out what James really thought about having Brandon in his life, Kris created another update. In the post, James spoke to their story’s followers by himself.

Someone called “Steve” said they felt terrible for the “next guy,” meaning James because he had to take Brandon into his life because he was a package deal with Kris. The poster’s new husband said he felt “bad” for Steve because they didn’t know what they were talking about.

James confessed to thinking Kris’ story about Brandon was “absolutely beautiful” when she told him about it. He admitted not being exposed to anyone who was as disabled as Brandon, and his “heart poured out for him” when they met, adding:
