Mandy Moore Overcame Marriage That Left Her ‘Curled up in a Ball on the Floor’ to Have ‘Big Love’ Kids

American singer, songwriter, and actress Mandy Moore is undoubtedly among the most talented entertainers in show business. Over the years, she has garnered a large fan base and continues to win many hearts with her beautiful voice and impeccable talent. 

Apart from her stellar career, there is more about the singer that many are unaware of. For example, Moore has been married twice and is a doting mother to one adorable son. Her first marriage was to fellow singer and songwriter Ryan Adams.

The pair started their relationship in March 2008, and on March 10, 2009, they exchanged wedding vows in a private and low-key ceremony in Savannah, Georgia. 

At the time, the former couple were head over heels in love with each other and had only nice things to say about one another. Moore once called Adams a “really fascinating person.” Unfortunately, the pair’s union was doomed from the onset.

After staying together for six years, Adams and Moore parted ways. The latter confessed that she never expected her marriage to turn out the way it did. Later, Moore would admit that Adams was not the right person. Here are more details about the actress’s personal life.

MOORE TALKS ABOUT THE STRUGGLES IN HER FIRST MARRIAGE

Years after Moore and Adams’ split, the “This Is Us” actress opened up about her bitter experiences during her marriage. During a 2019 chat session on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, Moore explained that her union with Adams was troubled by unhealthy dynamics from the beginning.

According to the singer, she lived to please Adams, having no sense of self. Moore further made it known that at some point, she felt like she was drowning.

The actress admitted that she was lonely with her singer ex-husband. Overall, Moore said her time with Adams was heavy, dark, and confusing. Apart from her struggles, Moore also opened up about the harshest moments during her marriage. In her words:

“There are moments of being curled up in a ball on the floor. It’s really hard. But I’ve moved on and progressed in the stages of grief and being angry and feeling the loss and all that.”

In due time, Moore found that she was not honoring herself after realizing that her marriage was not as fruitful as she had hoped. Aside from the actress, other parties also confirmed how rocky Moore and Adams’ relationship was.

“Yes, there were some good times, but he had so many issues. He constantly belittled her. And he was selfish and made everything about him,” a source noted. In addition, the source relayed that Moore tried very hard to be a good wife, but Adams made it impossible. 

MOORE’S THOUGHTS ON HER DIVORCE/ THE DIVORCE SETTLEMENT

All of Adams’ terrible treatment of Moore made the latter not feel guilty after the marriage ended, as she believed it was not her fault. The singer admitted that had she not left the unhealthy relationship, she would have been sorry.

Moore not only left the terrible marriage a free woman, but she also left richer. Following their divorce, the court repeatedly ordered Adams to pay his ex-wife $425,000 in cash.

In addition, Moore walked away with a 2012 Prius, their Griffith Park Home, and a Beverly Hills condo. On the other hand, Adams reportedly kept a 2008 Porsche Carrera, a 1959 Cadillac, pinball machines, and his comic book collection.

MOORE’S EVOLVEMENT INTO A BETTER PERSON

Undoubtedly, Moore faced tough times in her marriage to Adams. However, the singer made it known that the “trials and tribulations” she encountered eventually led to her finding happiness. 

According to the “Grey’s Anatomy” star, she finally felt lighter and was growing into the best version of herself. Before her confession, Moore had previously reflected on her life journey and concluded that her life had shifted profoundly.

“I’m better equipped to appreciate everything because of what I’ve gone through. I cannot believe my life and good fortune,” the “Tangled” star added.

INSIDE MOORE’S RELATIONSHIP WITH HER SECOND HUSBAND 

After Moore’s first marriage ended, she found love again in the arms of Folk-rock Musician Taylor Goldsmith. The pair’s journey to romance began when Moore took to Instagram to share a picture of an album from Goldsmith’s band, Dawes.

Somehow, Goldsmith saw the picture and sent the actress a note. Then, they started emailing each other before having their first offline date and eventually started a relationship that is still standing.

During the early stages of their relationship, Moore and Goldsmith tried to keep their romance a secret. However, they made headlines in September 2017, when the musician popped the big question.

 In November 2018, the lovebirds walked down the aisle in a private backyard ceremony at their Los Angeles home. Unlike her first marriage, the “This Is Us” actress found happiness with the musician. During an interview, she explained:

“I feel incredibly understood and supported. I feel incredibly lucky to have someone who is like, ‘I got your back.’ I found the right person, and I feel like we can handle anything together.”

In September 2020, the mom of one took to Instagram to reveal that she and Goldsmith were expecting a child. She shared monochrome snapshots showing her husband placing his hands on her baby bump.

Then, in February 2021, the couple celebrated the arrival of their first son, Gus. In an Instagram post, Moore shared the good news, adding that Gus’s arrival went beyond anything they had ever imagined.

It has been more than a year since Gus arrived, and the couple would not have it any other way. They cherish parenthood as well as being each other’s spouses.

In November 2021, Moore and Goldsmith celebrated their third marriage anniversary, and the former took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion. Alongside a montage of pictures capturing happy moments in her marriage and little family, the actress added the caption:

“3 years with my favorite (and nearly 9 months with my other favorite, thanks to you- ha). I’ll never get over whatever magic brought us into one another’s lives.”

She also added that meeting and marrying Goldsmith unlocked everything. It is a joy to see Moore finally enjoying a happy union following her first marriage experience. Hopefully, she and the musician’s love will remain intact as they celebrate more anniversaries together.
