Martin Lewis has confirmed a particular date that shoppers need to know about if they want to save some money on food for Christmas. The Money Saving Expert hosted a part of his show where he issued advice on how to cut the price of your Christmas food in half.
The 51-year-old is known for his genius money saving hacks and tips, and has become a trusted figure for struggling families during the ongoing cost of living crisis. He previously issued a warning to customers about spending too much over the festive period.
During an episode of his ITV show The Martin Lewis Money Show, he said: “Christmas is one day, do not ruin your lives for Christmas. You know you’re not going to be able to spend like you want to. People have a perfect Christmas in their mind and then work towards achieving it, decide how much you are going to spend on Christmas this year and stick to it.”
He then went on to share some dates that people should be aware of when looking for some big savings over Christmas. Martin revealed that one date in mid-December was particularly important if you want to cut the price of your Christmas dinner in half.
He explained on the show: “Christmas veg is likely to be reduced around the Monday 12 December. I suspect there will be big Christmas veg deals coming when we get to that time of year.”
He added that supermarkets Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Asda were likely to offer a similar deal. The Money Saving Expert said: “For the past few years, Lidl has done a £10 off £40 voucher.
“The date has moved slightly on this one, so if you’re looking to shop in Lidl, keep your eye out”. This comes after Lidl confirmed that it would be shutting nearly 1,000 stores for three days in December.
The budget supermarkets shared that it would be closing 960 stores on Christmas Day and New Years Day. It went on to add that some stores would also be closed on Boxing Day.
