Inside the Life of Matt Rife’s Parents

Matt Rife’s parents are no longer together. In a March 2023 interview, the stand-up comedian revealed that his biological father tragically passed away when he was only one year old, leaving him and his mother, April Rife, alone.

Following his father’s death, April remarried, and Matt gained a stepfather. However, Matt, who has four siblings, did not mention his stepfather’s name in the interview, stating that he “never really had a connection” with him.

His stepfather has three daughters who became the comedian’s older stepsisters. Matt also mentioned having a younger half-sister from his stepfather and mother’s relationship. While the name of his stepfather is still unknown, April’s Facebook profile states that she is currently dating Jay Wisenbarger.

Matt Rife’s Mother Is His Greatest Supporter

April’s support greatly influenced Matt’s career. He once described her as the “greatest mom on earth” and credits her for much of his success. He became passionate about stand-up comedy at a young age after watching legends like Dave Chappelle and Dane Cook.

Matt Rife’s parents may have only shared a few memories as a couple, but his grandfather, Steven, stepped into the father figure role and created new memories for Matt.

One day, his mother won tickets to see Dane perform at a sprawling arena in Ohio through a radio contest. Despite their less-than-ideal seats, the experience proved transformative for Matt.

Matt realized their limited opportunities in life and made a heartfelt promise to April on Mother’s Day in 2014. He vowed to transform their lives for the better.

From performing “bringer” shows, considered the least prestigious gigs in comedy, to auditioning for minor roles in TV shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” Matt conquered show business.

At 21, he became the youngest member of “Wild N’ Out,” hosted by Nick Cannon. He also achieved TikTok fame and released his own comedy specials, along with the ProbleMATTic World Tour.

“So amazed by him and so very proud! He crashed ticket systems around the world today. Hard work does pay off and dreams do come true!”

With his fame skyrocketing, Matt has made plans for his family. His priority is to buy his mom a house, then purchase a home for himself and his sister.

Matt Rife’s Grandfather Stood Up as His Father

Matt Rife’s parents may have only shared a few memories as a couple, but his grandfather, Steven, stepped into the father figure role and created new memories for Matt. For the first five years of his life, Matt and his mom lived in Steven’s home before they had their own.

On weekends, Matt would visit Steven, and they would enjoy watching comedy movies together. They often chose films featuring Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Jim Carrey, and David Spade. In addition, Steven would attend Matt’s baseball games and cook him blueberry waffles in the morning.

Although Matt lost his cherished grandpa, whom he affectionately called the “best paw paw,” their unforgettable memories will always remain. He gratefully acknowledges Steven for being his best friend, teacher, and inspiration.
