Since day one, Maya Rudolph has been a beloved star on “SNL.” The versatile entertainer, actress, comedian, and singer has a reality many admire; she is in an enduring romance with the filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

Before crossing paths, the celebrity couple was in relationships with known faces. The “50 First Dates” star briefly dated “SNL” alum Chris Kattan, while Anderson dated singer Fiona Apple.

The duo has remained mute on the story behind their first meeting, but following the filmmaker’s breakup from Apple, he entered into a new relationship with Rudolph in 2001. While recalling their early years as a couple, the actress revealed:

“No, it’s a sweet thing… Too personal. I don’t want to share it.”

Despite being one of Hollywood’s most respected lovers, they are yet to tie the knot. However, these two non-controversial, tight-lipped individuals are deeply in love and have adopted titles for each other. While the actress calls her lover “husband,” he enjoys describing her as his “wife.” According to the “Idiocracy” star:

“He likes ‘husband’ because people know what that means. It means he’s the father of my child, and I live with him, and we are a couple, and we’re not going anywhere.”

Indeed, their ‘marriage’ has been fruitful, producing four children during its two decades. Over the years, these celebrities have controlled what they share about their family and kids and are happy with their choices.

Here is how they cope with family life, including juggling life with their four kids, their offspring’s personalities, and plans not to expand their family.

Maya Rudolph Has Four Kids with Paul Thomas Anderson

After four years of dating, the “A Prairie Home Companion” star welcomed daughter Pearl Bailey in October 2005 in NYC. Thanks to Tina Fey, it took a few days for the news to become public. The fellow “SNL” star shared the news during her first night back on the show; Rudolph had had a daughter a few weeks earlier.

While recounting her motherhood experience is not a problem, the celebrity couple never compromises the status quo— keeping their kids out of sight.

Much later, the then-first-time mom opened up about her motherhood journey. Surprisingly, being a busy bee did not deter Rudolph from nurturing her first child.

As an infant, Pearl accompanied her mother to work while she enjoyed being placed on exclusive breastfeeding. It was an excellent time for the duo to bond, yet, the new mom confessed that motherhood was a different ball game. She said:

“It’s kind of scary to think I don’t have a plan right now. I don’t have a plan! I never really knew what it would be like to be someone’s mother. That’s a whole new plan unfolding.”

On November 6, 2009, Lucille, the couple’s second child, joined the family. They revealed their pregnancy news in May 2009 and later explained that they did not find out the baby’s gender before delivery.

Rudolph’s first and only son was born in July 2011. As with her previous pregnancies, she did not find out the gender because “the exciting part is not knowing who’s coming. You have to wait nine months for a surprise, but then it’s a good payoff because it really is a surprise,” the actress noted.

After baby number three, the couple grew familiar with the nitty-gritty of parenting, and instead of feeling anxious like the first time, they were grateful for the experience.

In 2013, the “SNL” alum became a mom to another child, a daughter named Minnie Ida. This time, Rudolph believed it was the icing on the cake they needed.

Their family had become complete with their fourth, and there was no need for an addition, she declared. In her words:

“We have all walking children now. It’s sad that the baby days are over, but it’s also like, ‘Okay, everybody’s healthy, we did it.’ Now we’re chugging.”

While recounting her motherhood experience is not a problem, the celebrity couple never compromises the status quo— keeping their kids out of sight. They never share their kids’ photos and are yet to take any of them for a movie premiere.

Maya Rudolph’s Kids Share Her Love for Performing

Like their parents, the Anderson-Rudolph clan prefers a quiet lifestyle. Much of what is known about them is because of their mother. In June, the “Disenchanted” star admitted that her kids are musically inclined, so she forces them to play the instruments.

She jokingly added that they might start a band; after all, they are the right number. In 2020, the mother of four talked about their passion for performing and dancing—so far, it has been indoors. She claimed:

“We have a lot of living room shows, but I’m usually told to sit down and watch!”

During the pandemic, Anderson’s kids were hands-on with his film titled “Licorice Pizza.” It included other notable faces like Bradley Cooper and George DiCaprio.

Maya Rudolph Never Thought She Would Have Four Kids

The experienced mom has been honest about the intricacies of motherhood. As a career woman juggling family and a job, she confirmed that there is nothing like balancing.

The actress unapologetically maintained that she never got it right and was not scared to ask for help. For her, it has taken a village to raise a family!

Still, she would not have it any other way. Rudolph, who never envisioned having four kids, is proud of her choices and progress as they molded her into who she is today. According to one of her motherhood quotes:

“I think having a child was really helpful to ground me solidly in a place of ‘These things need to get done.'”

Ultimately, Rudolph is a fulfilled woman who has been able to maneuver her way as a mother, wife, and actress, and with the help of her filmmaker husband, family life has been bliss.
