Michael J Fox Honors Wife after 35 Years of ‘Listening Loving’ Her: ‘Forever Yours’

Earlier this year, Canadian-American activist and retired actor Michael J. Fox, 62, sat down for an exclusive interview with ET to open up about his 35-year-long marriage to his beloved wife, Tracy Pollan, 63. The happy and in love 61-year-old asserted that their marriage has been the best years of his entire life.

While speaking about his wonderful relationship with Pollan, Fox revealed that one of the ways that make their marriage so strong and lasting has a lot to do with the fact that the duo allows each other the space to be able to make mistakes without holding it against the other. During the course of their over three-decade-long marriage, the couple has welcomed four children, Sam, Schuyler, Aquinnah, and Esmé Fox.

Through the good times and the bad, Fox maintains that he owes his survival to his doting wife, Pollan, who he refers to as his better half. The Canadian-American revealed:

“[I would] be dead [without her].”

The couple has weathered some extreme storms while remaining by each other’s sides. Before they met each other and achieved success in their illustrious careers, Fox went through a challenging time which is addressed in his Apple TV+ documentary, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.” Prior to the glitz and the glam, Fox did not have a lot of money.

The “Back to the Future” star divulged how he would have to go dumpster diving at a local grocery store because he knew that they would often throw out baked goods. He also spoke about how he would steal peanut butter and jam from Denny’s or IHOP occasionally. However, it was thankfully not long until he reached superstardom and became one of the biggest movie stars worldwide, and met his future wife.

Not long after the show’s success, Fox was sadly diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, making his life increasingly difficult. The Hollywood star admits to using alcohol as a coping mechanism when he was first diagnosed. However, he has now gone 30 years without having a drink and found a way to find joy and laugh amid his pain.

He also credited his loving family for being a solid support system for him. Additionally, Fox was able to turn his tragedy into triumph when he found kinship in a community of people who were also suffering from the same disease and started his foundation, which has, since its conception, raised a total of over $2 billion.

This past Sunday, the loved-up couple celebrated 35th years together, which all started one fateful day on the 80s sitcom set of “Family Ties.” Pollan was cast as Fox’s girlfriend, although they were seeing other people in real life. While she was dating fellow actor Kevin Bacon, Fox was dating Nancy McKeon.

It wasn’t until after they broke it off with their former partners that their love started to blossom after reuniting on the set of the movie “Bright Lights, Big City.” Seven months after a whirlwind romance, they tied the knot on July 16, 1988.

The star quickly became a beacon of hope and inspiration to others who could relate to the same experience he was going through.

To commemorate their momentous milestone, the lovebirds took to Instagram to post heartfelt tributes to each other. Fox shared a series of four photos of the pair throughout their years together and accompanied the post with a heartwarming message that read:

“35 years of laughter, living, listening, and loving you, @tracypollan. Thank you for it all. Forever yours, Mike.”

Similarly, Pollan posted a dedication to her doting spouse on her Instagram account. Her love-filled caption mentioned:

“35 years!!! Happy anniversary my love. Here’s to many more glorious adventures together; I could not love you more.”

The couple also commented on each other’s posts, reiterating their undying and unconditional love for each other. Fox also called his wife’s endearing post beautiful, just like her.

Last year in October, Fox gave another exclusive interview to ET in which he spoke about his Parkinson’s diagnosis. While talking about the phenomenal activism work he has done with his foundation that helps people diagnosed with the illness, he also revealed how he came to publicly disclose his diagnosis in the first place.

The interview took place just before his annual fundraiser benefit gala, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s.” During the conversation, Fox divulged:

“It was seven or eight years after I had been diagnosed… [and] the paparazzi and stuff, they would stand outside my apartment and heckle at me, like, ‘What’s the matter with you?’ I said, ‘I can’t be making my neighbors deal with this,’ so I came out, and it was great.”

What was even more wonderful and surprising to Fox was how people reacted to the news. According to the “Spin City” talent, a lot of people were interested and had a desire to learn more about the ailment and even wanted to find a solution to it. The star quickly became a beacon of hope and inspiration to others who could relate to the same experience he was going through.

His ability to help a plethora of people has reached incredible heights, and Fox remains grateful for the fact that he has managed to inspire people to the degree he has. Fox has had Parkinson’s for over 30 years now.

While speaking on his life, he reveals that though he has developed a positive outlook regardless of his diagnosis, on some days, he struggles. Fox explained:

“I’m not gonna lie; it’s really hard to get up and get ready and get out in the world [some days]. There are days that suck. [However, there’s] just understanding that I will get through it.”

Fox believes that in dealing with matters of health, one always has a choice of either deciding that they cannot overcome the challenge or encouraging themselves to get through it, which is something he always does. With his loving wife, who he calls his best friend, by his side, he remains confident and steadfast when confronting any complication.
