Minka Kelly Called Abortion Her ‘Smartest Decision’ Still Has No Kids of Her Own

Minka Kelly had an abortion when she was young and said it was her smartest decision. Now 42 years old, the actress still doesn’t have children. Although many people ask about Minka Kelly’s kids, she doesn’t have a family, but the actress is Theo’s mom in “Euphoria.”

Kelly has been on screen for over a decade, starring in different TV series: the likes of “Parenthood,” Friday Night Lights, and “DC’s Titans.” In the drama series “Euphoria,” Kelly plays Samantha, the wealthy mother of Theo.

As season 2 develops, her recurring role in the 2019 drama series becomes more critical. Given her role as Theo’s mother, some fans want to know more about the award-winning actress and if she has any biological kids.

Kelly was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 24, 1980. She is the only child of former guitarist Rick Dufay and Maureen Kelly, who was an actress and exotic dancer.

Although it’s not known if Kelly’s parents were married, the actress grew up with her mother, who constantly moved to different places. They finally settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when Kelly was in junior school.

Kelly’s paternal grandfather was actor Richard Ney, and her roots include Irish, German, Austrian, French, English, and Dutch.

Minka Kelly Likes to Be Surrounded by Families

Even though some sources reported about Minka Kelly’s kids, they referred to her ex-partner Jesse Williams and his former wife Aryn Drake-Lee who share two children, a son, Maceo, and a daughter, Sadie.

Kelly and Williams dated for a short period between 2017 and 2018; since they were never married, Kelly was not Sadie and Maceo’s stepmother.

While Kelly spent most of her childhood moving around the country with her single mom, the Hollywood award nominee considers L.A home.

When she was house hunting, the 42-year-old stated that one thing she looks for when buying a house is that it should be next to a good school zone. Kelly said that as much as she doesn’t have kids, the property will appreciate value if she ever plans to resale:

“I don’t have any kids, but I know for resale value that’s very important, and Trulia makes that really easy to identify.”

The actress stated that she was looking for a property within walking distance of different amenities and a quiet neighborhood. She also preferred a place surrounded by families and a dog-friendly area since she owns two dogs.

Minka Kelly Had an Abortion When She Was Younger

Kelly doesn’t shy away from speaking about how she had an abortion at a young age and that it was the wisest decision then. In an Instagram post, the actress revealed why she had to make that decision.

Kelly is an activist for children’s rights; the celebrated Hollywood star once published a post in support of the rights of transgender children.

Kelly disclosed that she got pregnant at a young age, and she and her boyfriend were too young to take care of the baby. They had no income or any means from family, so they thought it wasn’t wise to bring an innocent child into an unnecessary world of struggle.

The actress stated that if she had given birth to the child at that time, the situation would have perpetuated the cycle of poverty, chaos, and dysfunction that she experienced while growing up.

The actress shared her abortion story after Alabama lawmakers passed a bill effectively outlawing all abortions. Kelly spoke boldly about the matter, stating that allowing a baby to be born to a mother who was a victim of rape, incest, or financially unstable was not doing the child any favors.

Minka Kelly Wrote That Being a Mother Is Hard

Kelly disclosed how she had a complicated relationship with her mother before she died in 2008; in her case, she had to be the responsible one growing up. The celebrated actress opened up about how her mother would wake her up at night when she got home from working at the strip club.

They would then go shopping at the supermarket, and sometimes, her mother would want her to skip school the next day. According to Kelly, her father wanted to keep his family, but her mother was not ready for commitment.

Minka Gives Her Love to Kids

Although Minka Kelly has never been married or had children, the stunning actress has dated some of the most famous actors, musicians, and athletes. However, neither of her relationships materialized into a serious commitment.

Kelly is a loving woman and likes to share her affection with kids; she has a goddaughter and loves to spend a lot of time with her. Often, she posts photos of her and the little girl on Instagram.

In 2016, Kelly welcomed her nephew and shared the good news with her followers. The actress captioned that she was happy to be an aunt:

“I promise to be the best aunty ever, and I’ll never ever let you go. Even if I fall asleep! (I was just resting my eyes!!!) #newbff.”

Minka Is a Dog Mom

Besides sharing her affection with kids, Kelly is also a dog lover. In 2020, she celebrated National Dogs Day by posting photos of her dog named Freddy, adding that her pet reminds her of joy and unconditional love.

Kelly’s previous dog, Chewy, died years ago. She was devastated by Chewy’s death after living with her for 13 years. On her Instagram page, the actress stated that her dog Chewy was the first living thing she was responsible for and that Chewy taught her humility.
