NCIS's Sean Murray Spent 10 Years Renovating House for Wife 2 Kids — He Doesn't Have a Childhood Home

Sean Murray grew up in a background where he didn’t have a set childhood home where he could permanently put up photos in his room. However, since getting married and welcoming two children, he’s gone out of his way to build a house that his children would be proud of.

For around 30 years, Sean Murray has been playing the role of Senior Field Agent Timothy McGee on “NCIS.” However, the actor had an even bigger connection to the Navy because his father, Craig Murray, was a naval officer for 30 years.

Speaking to People magazine in 2017, Sean revealed that he’d grown up as a Navy child and moved around army bases. The star said his father wasn’t around much because he spent much time away.

According to the actor, his father “loves the show,” Sean was sure Craig would’ve watched the series even if he wasn’t starring in it. In March 2021, Sean told People that his “home” was wherever his father was stationed.

Before the actor was eight, he’d been to Australia, Singapore, and London. The Navy Captian raised his son on bases at “nondescript houses” that his family sometimes only saw for the first time when they arrived.

The Maryland-born star recalled how he and his mother would joke about the homes. They would wonder if the new home would have a lighter shade of military green or a darker one, while strict rules prevented them from personalizing their temporary homes.

However, as a child, Sean was allowed to decorate his bedroom walls. The actor’s first encounter with interior designing was when he got to decorate his bedroom wall with a 3D velvet Guns N’ Roses poster, with him recalling:

“It was the cover of ‘Appetite for Destruction,’ and it came like half an inch off of the wall.”

Sean revealed that, at the time, the poster was his favorite thing. Later in life, the star had his family unit with children, and he had the pleasure of designing the home’s interior and exterior.

Sean’s Wife and Their Family Life

According to his IMDb account, Sean married his wife, Carrie James, on November 26, 2005. The couple welcomed two children, Caitlyn Melissa or Cay Ryan and River James Murray.

Cay, the couple’s daughter, was born on May 3, 2007, while her brother was welcomed in Los Angeles on April 22, 2010. On the day of Carrie and her husband’s anniversary in 2020, she shared several throwback images from that special day.

In the post’s caption, Sean’s wife revealed that they were celebrating the 15th anniversary of their marriage that year. She said the weather was windy, and it was a Saturday afternoon when they tied the knot at the Lakeside Golf Club, adding:

“Here’s to more laughs, more fun, more love, and more moments like these.”

In June 2022, on Father’s Day, Carried shared a beautiful image of her husband and their children posing together. She wished Sean a happy day and noted how they made a “great team” before praising him, stating:

“Our kids are fortunate to have you as their dad, and I’m fortunate to have to (sic) you by my side during this wild ride. We love you.”

The House Sean Built for His Family

In 2015, Sean revealed to People that his Southern California family home was newly renovated. While giving the publication a tour of his estate, the actor explained that he was happy to stay put in one place, unlike when he was a child, saying:

“There is definitely something about putting roots down, because I didn’t have that as a kid, in a lot of ways. We moved every two, three years.”

A part of Sean told him that he finally had his place, space, and family home, so he had to make it his own. The couple bought the house after discovering they were expecting their second child.

The actor explained how the house was unrecognizable from how it originally looked because it initially had an “early-’90s” feel. The one-story home had a glass-block entry wall which the star changed to a wooden panel partition, one of his favorite parts of the space.
