No One Adopts a Boy for 10 Years – He Looks Forward to the ‘Freedom’ of Being Someone’s Son

After spending a decade in the foster care system, a boy longed to have a family of his own, with parents who would shower him with tender love and care. All he wanted was to feel a little less alone, but would his heartfelt wish ever come true?

Having a place to call home and a loving and affectionate family are sometimes taken for granted. Often, we get so engrossed in competing with each other and striving for what we don’t have that we lose sight of everything that we’ve already been blessed with. 

Every child deserves a parent and a supportive family that cherishes and cares for them. Sadly, many kids might lead a childhood deprived of love and care. But, somewhere deep down, they hope things will improve one day, and they’ll have a reason to smile again. Today’s story mirrors a similar scenario.

A WONDERFUL TEENAGER

Tim is a 13-year-old boy from Texas whose life is a lot different than boys his age and much more complicated than it seems on the surface. He has spent a significant part of his life in foster care. 

The teenager flew from another part of the state to Dallas with his caseworker to be featured on KHOU’s “Wednesday’s Child” segment in May 2022. He’s a wonderful youngster who doesn’t need people’s sympathies; instead, he wants a loving family to call his own.

THE BLUE-EYED BOY

Tim entered the foster care system when he was only three years old and has spent ten years of his life being a foster kid. Regarding his behavior at a residential treatment center for foster children, he shared:

“At home, I am an angel. Perfect.”

Tim’s caseworker found a picture of him when he was seven. The adorable photo was shown on “Wednesday’s Child,” where little Tim’s big blues eyes shone brightly with joy, and he was full of life.

THE YEARNING FOR A FAMILY

Six years down the road, Tim’s bright blue eyes look tired, and he doesn’t want the state to be his parent any longer. The present-day Tim yearns to call someone “mom” and “dad.” He expressed, “I want a mom and dad at least.”

He wants a career as a meteorologist or protecting and serving his people as a law enforcement officer.

WANTING TO BELONG

The teenager expressed that he has difficulty falling asleep at night and longs for the day he’ll stop moving from one place to another. He further added:

“Kind of like being in a prison without walls. You got runners, but then where you gonna go if you run? Absolutely nowhere but right back to where you ran from (sic).”

THE SEARCH FOR SOMETHING PERMANENT

Tim said he yearned for something permanent that would still be there when the day ended. When asked what kind of a mother he wants, the teenager replied:

“Someone that cares, who’s always worried. I may seem embarrassed sometimes (by her worrying) but she’ll still be wondering if I’m OK. She’ll ask how my day is every time I walk through the door.”

But that isn’t all. The young man also wishes to have a father who will teach him to be a better person, play ball with him, and be his hero by simply paying attention to him. “If I go outside, he’ll go outside with me. He’ll give me some normalcy,” added Tim.

FREEDOM OF BEING SOMEONE’S CHILD

After spending a large part of his childhood alone, he also wants siblings he can have fun with because he gets bored playing by himself. Tim also revealed he wants older siblings so he can learn from them and model their behavior. 

The Texas boy said he wants the freedom to belong and be someone’s son. His hopeful eyes lingered as he continued explaining what sort of freedom he craved:

“Freedom. Freedom to go out the door when I want and them not worrying about me coming back or not, because they know they can trust me.”

ANOTHER BOY WITH A HEARTFELT WISH

Like Tim, another Texas kid hopes to find an adoptive family that will love him and pave the pathway for his education and career. Cory is a 14-year-old boy who aspires to be a cop someday. He loves music, enjoys playing video games, collecting Pokemon cards, and reading books.

The youngster is also interested in the weather and natural disasters. He wants a career as a meteorologist or protecting and serving his people as a law enforcement officer. Cory loves ice cream, pizza, and burgers and likes venturing outside on his bike and scooter. He can be found cooling it off in the pool on a hot day.
