Petition to Fire Amber Heard from ‘Aquaman 2’ Goes over 4.5M Signatures

Millions of “Aquaman” fans have decided that they no longer want Amber Heard to be a part of the film’s sequel. They are signing a petition to make their voices heard, and the number of signatures has surpassed the petition’s initial goal.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship began over a decade ago and looked to have developed into a toxic marriage. The pair divorced in 2016 and went to court in 2018 over an op-ed about surviving domestic violence that Amber Heard wrote for The Washington Post.

Johnny Depp sued her for $50 million in damages, and she countersued for $100 million. The jury’s verdict revealed that Amber Heard could not corroborate her allegations against him, and she knew her abuse claims were untrue when she wrote her piece.

While reading the verdict, the jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages while awarding Heard $2 million in compensatory damages but no punitive penalties.

During the court battle, fans created a petition on Change.org for Heard to be fired from “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” with a goal of 4.5 million signatures.

Even though there were reports that Heard had ten minutes of screen time, fans do not want her in the movie, and their signatures have helped the petition surpass its target of 4.5 million signatures.

PETITION TO REMOVE AMBER HEARD FROM “AQUAMAN 2”

The petition against the actress was not the first petition since 2018. However, this petition first gained traction in November 2020, when it reached 1.5 million signatures following Depp’s exit from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.

While it slowed down over the years, it picked up momentum again during Depp and Heard’s trial, and after the jury’s verdict in favor of Depp, fans added more signatures to the petition.

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES AMBER HEARD HAVE TO REPAY JOHNNY DEPP AFTER TRIAL?

After finding her guilty of defaming Depp, a jury ordered Heard to pay him $15 million in damages. However, according to the state’s laws, they had to reduce the punitive damages to $350,000.

Heard’s attorney, Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, revealed that the “Aquaman” actress could not afford to pay the $10.35 million judgment. The actress may be required to post a bond for the total amount, plus interest.

She could appeal the judgment to get a favorable verdict and pay less in damages, she could have her current and future wages garnished, file for bankruptcy or Depp could waive the judgment.

WILL AMBER HEARD APPEAL THE VERDICT IN JOHNNY DEPP’S TRIAL?

After the verdict, Heard’s attorney, Bredehoft, revealed that the actress plans to appeal the ruling. She also said that Heard’s appeal would partly focus on highlighting the information Heard was not allowed to testify about during the trial because Depp’s team objected to them as hearsay.

The attorney, who had said the jurors were “confused,” said she does not question the judge’s fairness because she has known her for a long time, but she is challenging the rulings.
