The Prince and Princess of Wales seem to be doing just fine in passing down the royal traditions and beliefs. At 9, their eldest son, George, now second in line to the throne, already understands his roots and the royal family’s future.

Recently, a royal author, Katie Nicholl, wrote in her new book that the young Prince is proud of his royal blood, and he reprimanded a classmate who crossed him.

In her publication “The New Royals,” the author alleged that George cheekily warned another fellow in school with the words, “my dad will be king so you better watch out.”

Nicholls explained that George and his other siblings, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, are being raised to understand that they have a duty to perform as royals.

According to her, the 9-year-old will undoubtedly claim the throne in the future; however, his parents are still trying to shield him, and they are not imposing royal responsibilities on him, as it may be too soon. In her words:

“They are raising their children, particularly Prince George, with an awareness of who he is and the role he will inherit, but they are keen not to weigh them down with a sense of duty.”

Despite keeping him under their wings, George is inevitably learning the ropes from his predecessors as he is next in line after his dad.

Prince George Is Preparing for His Future Role

Slowly but steadily, George has been preparing for his role as a senior member royal and, eventually, the King.

Although reports showed that Kate and William try to give their son a normal childhood, he is in for a not-so-normal life, thanks to being born as a royal.

The only way George may not rule as King is if he chooses to abdicate the role or remain a working royal. The last time the royal family witnessed a senior royal relinquishing their roles was during the Megxit.

In the house, the young lad is allowed to participate in chores, makes his bed every morning, and is dropped off at school by his parents. While in school, he answers George Cambridge, like any regular student.

Amid these everyday lifestyles, the underlined truth is that George has very little in common with non-royals. As his age advances, he would claim the position of a working royal and become committed to lifelong service to the crown.

According to a royal writer, Robert Lacey, in his book, “Battle of Brothers,” the young Prince must have learned about his future position when he was seven. He wrote:

“William has not revealed to the world how and when he broke the big news to his son. But sometime around the boy’s seventh birthday in the summer of 2020, it is thought that his parents went into more detail about what the little Prince’s life of future royal ‘service and duty’ would particularly involve.”

Indeed, William and Kate have already planted the service to the community in their kids. For example, during the coronavirus pandemic, the royal couple authorized their kids to volunteer to deliver food to their at-risk neighbors.

Additionally, during that period, the Cambridges emphasized how vital the health workers were and their sacrifices. In fact, the entire family, from the oldest to the youngest, participated in the “clap for carers” initiative.

Somehow, the principles upheld by the Prince and Princess of Wales have influenced George, who already possesses a sense of duty.

In a former interview with BBC, per Vogue, William described his son as a passionate environmentalist. While his parents are impacting him with fundamental values, they are also introducing him to the royal life—but they are in no rush.

One of his earliest appearances as an active royal was in December 2019, when he mixed Christmas pudding at Buckingham Palace with other senior royals.

Again, in 2020, he was present at the Christmas pantomime performance at the London Palladium. The following year, George attended the European Championships at the Wembley Stadium, where he cheered England as they scored.

Simultaneously, George has also brushed up his eloquence, as there have been practices on public speaking.

For example, while shooting David Attenborough’s documentary, “A Life on Our Planet, Kensington Palace,” George asked the naturalist a brilliant question.

Following the documentary, a royal insider said, “George has turned into a confident little boy and loves meeting new people,” adding that George and his siblings do not get nervous about the public or crowd.

By all accounts, William and Kate are being intentional about how they raise their kids. While preparing them for a future as a royal, they are also mindful about not exposing them unnecessarily to the public.

In “The New Royals,” Nicholl explained that Kate is in awe of the Wessexes’ parenting technique. Despite being active royals, Prince Edward, and Sophie Wessex have kept their teenage kids, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, out of the public eye.

This does not mean that they do not bear their HRH titles. However, the Wessexes focused on giving their kids a quiet upbringing while impacting them with strong values, including working and earning.

Reportedly, Kate and William came up with their parenting style, forsaking the traditional royal method. Instead, they took a cue from how Kate, a non-royal with two other siblings, were raised—in wealth, but not in an aristocratic manner.

A royal expert has tagged their parenting model the “Middleton way.” According to Duncan Larcombe, the Cambridges do “not overexpose” their kids to allow them “to have a more conventional younger life.” He added:

“I think what we’ve seen for some time now is that the model William and Kate are essentially using… It’s that strong family: brothers, sisters, everyone. And it is a tight unit.”

The Only Reason George May Not Be King

As mentioned above, George is nine but is already second in line to the throne, placing him directly behind his dad, who would rule after his granddad, King Charles III.

However, in an improbable case where the ruling monarch lives longer than the Prince of Wales, George will ascend the throne in place of his father.

This succession will be passed unto his children in the future. But if George never bears kids, his position will be given to Princess Charlotte and, later, Prince Louis.

The only way George may not rule as King is if he chooses to abdicate the role or remain a working royal. The last time the royal family witnessed a senior royal relinquishing their roles was during the Megxit.

However, before then, a ruling monarch, Edward VIII, who ruled for a year, stepped down following his engagement to an American divorcee. His brother held his position, as Edward VIII did not have any children.

It is not known what the Prince will opt for, and even though he is only 9, it is evident that he is getting ready to fill his father’s big shoes as a senior royal member while showcasing pride in his family.
