Drew Scott and his wife Linda Phan wanted to have a child after marriage. However, what they didn’t expect was that the road to conceiving would be scary and challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it.

In June 2019, Drew Scott appeared in a “The Scott Brothers” clip where he opened up about his relationship status. The reality television star started by admitting how he’d always been a single guy since high school.

Drew explained that his focus was on work from his 20s and realizing his passions. He wanted to be a director and an actor and was also getting into real estate, dated now and again but was never focused on finding love.

The star only had one woman who was a semi-long-term girlfriend but nothing solid. Then Linda Phan came into his life unexpectedly and caught him off guard before teaching him what love was!

Being with her allowed Drew to bring out a more romantic side of him that he didn’t know existed! The star felt his twin brother, Jonathan Scott, was always the romantic one until that point.

Speaking to People magazine in 2016, Drew revealed how he and Phan initially met in 2010 at a Toronto Fashion Week event. He recalled how Phan was dressed up as the “fashion police” with a big police badge.

She was giving attendees tickets for having “bad” fashion. When Drew spotted her, he thought she had a great personality and was quite attractive and went to find her backstage to ask her where she got the water she was drinking.

According to Phan, a few months later, the pair went on “the longest first date ever.” Part of the dates’ activities included visiting a hot chocolate joint and a sushi restaurant while ending off with a karaoke party.

Funny enough, Phan hadn’t invited Scott to the party, he offered to go, and his date just went with it. Going to the party turned out to be the perfect first move because when the reality star started singing, his date fell for him!

The HGTV star’s first karaoke song was “I’m on a Boat” by The Lonely Island. Ultimately, the pair ended up singing the night away, and Drew knew he was falling for her when he brought her along to meet Jonathan and their best friend, Pedro.

While together, Pedro started setting up a joke, and to their surprise, Phan was the one who threw in the punch line! Jonathan whispered in Drew’s ear, asking him who she was and noting that she was a keeper, with the latter stating:

“In that one moment, I knew we were on the same parallel. When you’re in love, you mesh that way.”

After Drew and Phan had been dating for around six years, the “The Property Brothers” star began planning a surprise engagement. For weeks he hid his elaborate plans from his girlfriend.

He carried the engagement ring for weeks, and all plans were done offline so Phan wouldn’t come across them by accident. Drew even went to New York City to record a unique version of Train’s “Marry Me.”

While out for dinner at the Toronto restaurant Piano Piano, the HGTV reality star had the establishment play his song while they dined. That was the cue for an illustrated cake to be brought out.

The dessert offering featured from one of Phan’s favorite books, Dr. Seuss’s “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” but instead, it read, “Oh the Places We’ll Go,” signaling what their future had in store for them.

Drew proposed in December 2016 with a white gold round-cut four-prong swirl solitaire engagement ring. After Phan said yes, the celebrations continued with a surprise engagement party.

The newly engaged couple went to a nearby venue which Phan thought was a company holiday party. However, upon arrival, she was surprised to see their family and friends, including Jonathan and the Scotts’ other brother, J.D.

SCOTT AND PHAN’S SECRET WEDDING

In 2018, Drew and Phan secretly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony. Phan revealed that they initially got married in Nashville, Tennessee, in a hot tub by a justice of the peace that came to them.

The couple thought the justice would oppose the setting, but she reckoned it was the “coolest” thing she’d ever seen! Phan and Drew exchanged burgers instead of wedding rings!

The couple then included their family and friends of around 300 guests for their destination wedding ceremony in Puglia, Italy. Drew revealed that the wedding was squeezed in while he and Jonathan were traveling and filming Property Brothers.

The process was that Drew and Phan had to get married in their local country legally, and overseas was just a ceremony and the fun stuff. For their May 2018 event, Drew honored his father’s Scottish heritage by wearing a kilt.

His wife looked stunning in a flowing wedding gown. The television personality’s groomsmen were charming in their matching kilts, while the bridal party looked gorgeous in green dresses.

Judging by the Valentine’s Day photo Phan put up on Instagram in 2019, the couple were pleased to become husband and wife. In the image, the pair smiled and laughed as they leaned in for a kiss on their wedding day.

As soon as Phan and Drew were married, the duo revealed that they couldn’t wait to have children! The HGTV star said he thought he and his wife would make “great parents,” and they were excited to start that chapter.

Jonathan agreed, noting how he couldn’t think of “two more wonderful people to be parents.” However, he confessed that as excited as he was, becoming an uncle would take time to get used to!

Drew and Phan, now the creative director for Scott Brothers Global, even put aside some space in their Los Angeles home for children. The television star explained how he made sure their home could function nicely for children.

Phan was even willing to give up her craft room so that it would become a nursery! In January 2019, the couple sparked pregnancy rumors when Drew commented on Joanna Gaines’ Instagram image of her with her lastborn son, Crew.

The fellow HGTV star captioned her post joking, noting how it was probably time for her to upgrade Crew’s clothing size. The then-six-month-old boy was seen wearing a small-size onesie as he slept on his mother’s lap.

Drew commented, “We’ll be having kids soon, so I’ll hit you up for hand-me-downs…” Fans lost their minds with excitement as they anticipated the birth of the reality star’s first child.

However, the couple’s journey to parenthood wasn’t easy but became a “big project” instead. On The Scott Brothers’ website, Drew and Phan shared how they’d tried to get pregnant for two years without much dedication to the process.

They [Drew Scott and Linda Phan] called them [their doctor] back while in their attic to receive the good news!

The star’s wife thought something was wrong with their foundation, while he figured their timing was just off. Then when the pandemic started, the pair thought things would get easier for them to try for a baby.

Drew and his wife even made a checklist of things to do, like getting enough sleep, to try and make the process go smoothly. The couple had to have medical assistance to help them conceive.

They even documented their process in 2021 via YouTube, where Drew was seen giving his wife fertility shots. If the pregnancy failed, part of their contingency plan was to adopt a child.

However, the duo didn’t have to take that route when they finally found out, through their reproductive endocrinologist, that they were expecting their first child. Phan and her husband had missed the doctor’s call that morning.

They called Dr. Baek back while in their attic to receive the good news! In December 2021, the HGTV star shared mirror selfies of his wife’s growing baby bump and noted how it had been an “adventure” to get to where they were.
