Born August 20, 1948, in Staffordshire, England, Robert Anthony Plant made his name known in the music industry as the lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin.

His band skyrocketed to international fame until they broke up in 1980. While Led Zeppelin’s split was unfortunate, Plant had his wife Maureen Wilson’s support in pursuing a solo career.

Wilson and Plant met in 1966 while attending a Georgie Fame concert. While it was unfortunate that the event was canceled at the last minute, the circumstances allowed them to have an in-depth conversation. Their romantic relationship began soon after.

Plant was yet to become a superstar at that time. In fact, he struggled to get on his feet as a musician and had financial difficulties. Nevertheless, Wilson stood by and supported him. Wilson even got him a job at her father’s factory.

The couple tied the knot on November 9, 1968, at the Roundhouse, London. Plant’s band, once known as The Yardbirds, reportedly made their name debut, Led Zeppelin, during the wedding. It was the first time they played together with the same name now known across borders.

Wilson joined Led Zeppelin on tours around the country to support her husband’s career, and in 1969, Plant dedicated a song he wrote, “Thank You,” to his wife. The couple lived in marital bliss for several years and were inseparable despite the artist’s busy schedule.

During their marriage, Wilson and Plant welcomed three beautiful children. Their firstborn, Carmen Jane, came in 1968, and four years later, Wilson gave birth to their son, Karac Pendragon. The couple waited seven more years before having another child, a son named Logan Romeo.

Sadly, their family suffered misfortune in 1974 when they met a car accident in Rhodes, Greece. Wilson, who was behind the wheel, suffered significant injuries, such as damage to her leg, skull, and pelvis.

Meanwhile, in the passenger seat, her husband shattered bones in his leg and broke an ankle, leaving him in a wheelchair. Fortunately, the children didn’t have major injuries.

Two years later, on July 26, 1977, their family experienced another tragic event. Plant and Wilson’s son, Karac, succumbed to a stomach virus. Plant’s father revealed at that time:

“Karac was the apple of Robert’s eye. They idolized one another.”

Plant, who was on tour during Karac’s death, immediately went home to be with his family. He had only landed in New Orleans when he received the devastating news of his son’s passing. Admittedly, Plant and Wilson were distraught over the tragedy. He said:

“We pulled tight together, and both my wife and I, we had strong families and good support. I mean, John Bonham from Zeppelin and his wife Pat, they were magnificent with us and helped us a lot.”

Despite having another child, Plant and Wilson had marital issues they could no longer fix. Eventually, they ended their marriage in 1983.

They purchased a home in Austin, Texas, but eventually called it quits in 2013. Plant and Griffin also had differences and disagreements that led to their split.
