Rosemary Margaret Hobor’s Children Shared In-Depth Look at Late Dad John Candy

Rosemary Margaret Hobor never loved again after her husband, John Candy, died. She has since raised their children independently and happily lives as a widow.

Canadian actor and comedian John Candy had a successful Hollywood career that inspired many in show business, including actor Ryan Reynolds.

In a recent interview on “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” Reynolds revealed that his “Deadpool” films had a subtle tribute to Candy, using a book, “The Canadian Mounted,” the late actor read in his movie, “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.”

“Growing up, I had a real obsession, quite generally, with John Candy, and I still do,” Reynolds said. “If I’m flummoxed in a scene, or I can’t figure out a way in, I will just copy them.” John rose to stardom in the ’70s but, sadly, passed away in 1994 due to a heart attack.

JOHN CANDY’S CHILDREN REMEMBER THEIR DAD

John left behind two kids, Jennifer and Chris, whom he shared with his wife, Rosemary Margaret Hobor. The couple met on a blind date, as told by his children, and immediately hit it off. John later asked Rosemary to help him type a script; the rest is history.

Although they have fond memories, John’s kids also remember the sad ones. His son, Chris, was nine years old at the time the actor died and still recalls his last conversation with John. Chris said:

“I remember talking to him the night before he passed away, and he said, ‘I love you and goodnight.’ And I will always remember that.”

Jennifer also recalled the time her father passed. She had just celebrated her 14th birthday with her father and was on the phone with him while studying for a vocabulary exam. “I was like, ‘Yeah, okay, I love you. I will talk to you later. Have a great night.’ Then I hang up, and I go back to studying,” she narrated.

John’s children remember him for his kind heart, especially towards animals. He liked bringing home animals from shelters. Although Rosemary was allergic to cats and dogs, she remained supportive. Jennifer said:

“We had four Clydesdales: Peaches and Cream, Uncle Buck, and Harry Crumb. We had cows. The farm, for him, was creating something where he could just go and escape and not be bothered, and be with his family.”

Although it has been years since his passing, Jennifer and Chris still pay tribute to their father on social media, noting how much they miss the actor. 

Now grown up, Jennifer already has a family of her own, including a child named Finley. On the other hand, Chris found himself in the entertainment industry like his dad. Although John is no longer around to see how much his kids have grown, they have their mom to share fond memories with.

Rosemary, born on August 20, 1949, shared a passion for creative arts with her husband. After graduating from Ontario College of Art and Design University, she pursued a career in crafting, painting, and ceramic designs.

Her talents are seen through her pottery products, such as vases, plates, pots, and others, and abstract paintings. She is also active in charitable organizations, such as the Make-A-Wish and Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

When John died, Rosemary channeled all of her time and energy toward raising their children independently. She hasn’t been in love with any man since and lives as a widow.
