The “Hot Seat” star, who has always been open about her struggles, revealed the return of her cancer in a February 2020 interview, saying she had not come to terms with the news and that it was a difficult thing to fathom in more ways than one.

Doherty got candid about coping with her cancer’s recurrence and admitted she sometimes questions why it has happened to her. But then again, she asks herself who is supposed to go through such a painful experience because no one deserves to go through such.

Doherty stated that her concern was how she would break the news to her mother and now soon-to-be ex-husband whenever she received such information. The “Charmed” star, who has been transparent about her disease and has documented it on her social media, decided to keep the info of her cancer coming back a secret.

Despite the diagnosis, the star returned to work and divulged that she kept the news under wraps because she wanted to prove that she could still work under the circumstances.

Doherty stated that because of her condition, people can see that someone with stage 4 cancer can work despite the odds. Although she kept mum about her recurrence, she only told a small group of people, including fellow “90210” co-star Brian Austin Green, who has been a good support system at work.

Doherty has experienced anxiousness on set, leading her to wonder whether she could do the job. But Green, whom she has been leaning on, told her he has her “back,” come what may. Such encouraging words have helped her get through this challenging time in her life.

In spite of the ordeal, she seems in good spirits. In March 2023, Doherty sat down for a “Charmed” panel alongside co-stars Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan, and Drew Fuller, among others, at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut.

She gave fans an update about how she is. When asked how she was doing amid her cancer battle, the Hollywood star said, “I’m feeling great, thank you!”
