Sinéad O’Connor Married 4 Times: She Initially Split from Fourth Husband after 3 Weeks

Sinéad O’Connor’s spouse has always been a topic of interest. When she tied the knot for the fourth time, O’Connor announced her separation within three weeks. Weeks later, she revealed that they had reconciled.

Born on December 8, 1966, in Glenageary, Dublin, Sinead O’Connor is one of five children. Although she was raised a Roman Catholic, her upbringing involved abuse from her parents.

When O’Connor turned eight, her parents decided to go separate ways, and she ended up under her mother’s care.

However, life’s challenges never stopped. At 15, O’Connor was locked up in a Magdalene asylum due to truancy and shoplifting. While in the institution for 18 months, O’Connor discovered her passion for music. She turned this interest into a career, forming a band, Ton Ton Macoute, in 1984.

Unfortunately, when her mother died in a horrific car crash the following year, O’Connor left the band. She relocated to London, where her music career took off.

Sinéad O’Connor’s Four Marriages

While busy making a name for herself, O’Connor tied the knot four times. In 1987, she married music producer John Reynolds, with whom she collaborated on several albums. Together, they had one child, her eldest son, Jake Reynolds. Unfortunately, their marriage only lasted four years until 1991.

O’Connor had her second child, Roisin, with John Waters, a journalist. However, they never tied the knot and eventually called it quits. Their custody battle ended with Waters taking Roisin under his wing.

In 2001, O’Connor walked down the aisle again to marry Nick Sommerlad, a British journalist. The duo kept their wedding under wraps. Before going their separate ways, the couple never had children.

Three years after her wedding, O’Connor welcomed her third child, Shane O’Connor, out of wedlock with musician Donal Lunny. The two musicians never became husband and wife.

Her fourth child, Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio, was also born outside of marriage with Frank Bonadio, a businessman. Although their relationship never worked out, the two reportedly remained friends.

O’Connor had a short marriage in 2010 after she married her longtime friend, Steve Cooney. The pair called it quits the following year.

In 2011, O’Connor had her fourth wedding to marry Barry Herridge, a therapist. This would be her shortest union, lasting only three weeks, of which they only lived under one roof for one week.

Her Last Split

The singer married Herridge in a drive-through Las Vegas ceremony and claimed their union was “kyboshed by the behavior of certain people in my husband’s life within hours.” According to the Guardian, she also said:

“My husband was enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage.”

She later realized that rushing her marriage was a mistake. Their short-lived relationship was plagued with pain brought about by each other. Eventually, the duo realized they were better off apart and free.

Later She Gave an Update

The following year, O’Connor gave fans an update on her love life, revealing that she and Herridge have since reconciled and are still married. During a soundtrack release party for “Albert Nobbs,” she flaunted her wedding ring and said she was happy.

Although not much has been said about her last marriage, O’Connor has been focusing on herself in recent years. On November 10, 2020, the singer opened up to fans about her personal situation and that she was taking time off to join a trauma and addiction program.

The “Nothing Compares 2 U” songstress revealed that she had been living the past six years in trauma and sought help to become better. Because of her recovery and healing period, Sinead O’Connor had to cancel her shows.

Although fans were not happy about the concert cancellations, they were very supportive of the artist’s journey to being the best version of herself.
