Bailey Ennis from London wanted to have a child but didn’t necessarily want to be in a committed relationship with another person. She figured she could raise a child independently and started to search for ways to do just that.

While searching for answers online, she came across an experienced donor who happened to live nearby. She purchased an artificial insemination kit for $30 and began her journey toward having a baby.

After a smooth-sailing pregnancy, Ennis gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Lorenzo. She got used to being a single mom quickly and is happy with her decision to go through parenting alone:

“Having a baby by myself is the best thing I’ve ever done. Being a mom is wonderful, and I am so happy I decided to do it alone.”

Ennis Always Knew She Wanted a Child

Ennis was determined to become a mother in her early 20s. She started looking for sperm donors and wanted to choose someone who had a lot of experience with the process and was healthy.

As a lesbian, Ennis didn’t want to be in a heterosexual relationship to have a child. Despite her sexual preference, she admits, “I’ve wanted to be a mom since I was a teenager…I just wanted to have a baby.”

She knew artificial insemination was the only way for her to do that. She found a donor with a healthy record who’d been a donor to two LGBTQ couples.

Ennis got in touch, and they met up for coffee. It was then that they both agreed he would be the donor.

He even offered to become her donor again in case she wanted more children in the future. Admittedly, Ennis wants her children to be blood-related.

When they were both ready, the donor went to Ennis so he could help her with the insemination process. He gave his donation and helped her navigate through the kit.
