Stephen A. Smith committed the ultimate crime in the mediaâs eyes â defending Donald Trump â and instead of standing his ground, heâs backing down.
The sports commentator had told Sean Hannity on Fox News just days ago that the persecution of Trump by the justice system has been ârelatableâ to the black community.
And the âblacklashâ that ensued inspired him to apologize.
âA lot of folks in black America seem pretty pissed at me right now,â Smith told his audience, adding that his âwords were interpreted as associating support for Trump from the black community with all the legal issues heâs facing.â
Smith went on to apologize and say that the black community will ânever forget how Trump claimed Obama, the nation’s first black president, wasnât even qualified to hold office because he was born in Kenya.â
Jason Whitlock isnât surprised, calling him âStephen A. No Backbone.â
âI have a question though,â Steve Kim adds. âDo black pundits not have a right to have their own feelings? I donât see this pressure on anyone white.â
Whitlock didnât see a problem with his original comments, only the black communityâs supposed reaction and the lack of strength behind his own convictions.
âHis comments are innocuous, and just not very harmful or impactful. That âHey black people find Trump relatable because of you know, the criminal justice problems,ââ Whitlock says. âThatâs not a controversial statement.â
âThis is why I just said, and have been saying for months now, this guyâs installed. Heâs got puppet strings on him,â he adds.
