Strictly Come Dancing’s Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin have been handed a massive advantage by the BBC going into this coming weekend’s semi-final.
Stage star Layton and his pro partner Nikita have taken the series by storm despite accusations about Layton’s previous dance experience – such as starring in Billy Elliot on the stage – dogging the pair.
And now the duo have been given a big leg up for next week’s semi-final after an announcement by Shirley Ballas on Sunday’s results show.

Shirley Ballas announced that the scores will be carried over to next weekend in what will be a huge change to the series, as the scores have never carried over week to week before.
It’s because Nigel Harman and his pro partner Katya Jones were forced to pull out of the series due to Nigel sustaining an injury, ans it meant that there was no dance off in Sunday’s results show.
As a result, the BBC’s show producers decided to change the format of the competition and instead carry the scores from this weekend to next weekend’s semi-final.
Head judge Shirley said: “Our remaining couples have given it everything they’ve got and every single thing will be vital for the semifinal as the scores will be carried over.
“The couple at the top of a very important leaderboard is Layton and Nikita, followed Ellie and Vito, then Bobby and Dianne and Annabel and Johannes.”
It makes things tougher for Annabel Croft, who sits bottom of the leaderboard from musicals week, but gives Layton and Nikita a huge boost as they sit several points ahead of their rivals after a clean sweep 40/40 from the judges.
The pair will have to learn two dances for the semi-final.
Nikita said to Claudia Winkleman: “It feel surreal I can’t even believe it and doing it with you [Layton], it feels very special. we have such a special bond, such a special connection, and just making plans for the future, and even planning vacations without being soppy we’re even talking of the same places.
“For the semi final we are doing such a beautiful dance. We are doing the rhumba, and we are doing the charleston.
“Fantastic dances.”
Viewers are not all happy with the change.
@mrsgaius said: “In past years, the scores have seemed bizarre – eg the year Pixie Lott was eliminated before the final. This year has had the most obvious fixing ever. Angela Rippon allowed to stay too long, Annabel’s scores rarely matched performance & Ellie should’ve had a higher score last week”
Strictly Come Dancing returns with spinoff It Takes Two on BBC Two at 6.30pm on Monday, December 4.
