Dean Cain, known as Clark Kent or Superman on the television series “Lois & Clark,” became known as a “superdad.” In 2020, the actor, then 48, was raising his son, 22, in 2023, as a single father.

While he’s a famous star, being a father was his most challenging and significant role. Speaking about his son, Dean revealed that he was his favorite person on the whole planet, but the title also encompassed the boy’s half-siblings.

Twins Isabelle and Elijah, with Dean’s ex Samantha Torres, often came to visit their father. The actor said he’d do anything for his twins and that if one had to hang around at his “broken home,” it was the last thing they’d think.

On January 30, 2023, the star, then 56, shared a gorgeous Instagram photo of him and his son posing with broad smiles and said his offspring was the “best part” of his day. In a hashtag, Dean also reiterated that his son was his “favorite human.”

On his Instagram Story, the actor also uploaded a poem about how he closed his eyes and found a man standing where his boy used to be. He noted how he couldn’t carry his son in his arms anymore but would always carry them in his heart, adding:

“You have given me so many reasons to be proud of the man you have become, but the proudest moment for me is telling others that you are my son.”

The poem concludes by declaring the star’s undying love now and forever. Dean might be a fantastic father to his children, but the irony was that the actor didn’t have someone to teach him how to be that way.

“Superman” Was Abandoned by Own Father

In 1969, after Dean’s mother, Sharon Thomas, married his stepfather, Christopher Cain Sr., he and his brother, Roger, were adopted. The actor once revealed that he never knew or met his biological father, Roger Tanaka, who was Japanese.

His original name was Tanaka, but when Thomas remarried at four, the star took his stepfather’s last name. In a 1996 article, it was revealed that Tanaka left Thomas before Dean was born.

The parent never bothered to get in touch with the actor, and he was fine. The star was three when his mother married Christopher Sr. and was thrilled to see his father on a Warner set and called him his “dad.”

Dean also felt that there was so much he owed his parents. Maybe part of his payment back to his parents was how he paid tribute to Christopher Sr. when his first son was born.

Baby Boy Named after Dean’s Stepfather

On June 11, 2000, Dean and Torres welcomed their son, Christoper Dean Cain Jr., at 1.30 p.m., weighing 7lbs 15oz. The boy’s first name was a tribute to the actor’s stepfather.

In a December 2000 article, Dean discussed his work, noting how sometimes it was done to inspire himself and sometimes because people inspired him. At times starring as an actor was a job to make money and for him to support his son.

At the time of the interview, the star was 34, and Christopher Jr. was six months old. The actor started sacrificing essential things for his son when he was relatively young, showing Dean’s dedication.

Dean Sacrificed Career for Son in the Middle of Custody Battle

Dean and Torres shared custody of Christopher Jr. from 2003, but in 2011, the actor was given sole custody. In 2021 while being at a special screening of “God’s Not Dead: We the People,” the actor confessed how he’d sacrificed his work to focus on being a parent.

However, the choice he made affected his career in a big way. He turned down being one of the highest-paid television actors for a show that ran for more than six years and was still going, stating:

“The contract was very attractive. But I was in the middle of a custody dispute, so I could either be a father or take that job.”

Dean explained how it took him less than a split second to decline the job offer. For 18 months, the star and Torres were engaged in a custody battle for their son and were given joint custody when the boy was two.

That made him [Dean Cain] realize how important it was that he’d made the choice to be there for his own son [Christopher Cain Jr.].

When the actor got sole custody, it was an agreement he and Torres had settled on so that Christopher Jr. could be raised in one household. The “Vendetta” star said his experience as an adoptee influenced his choice to prioritize being a father over having a successful career.

The actor shared how he chose fatherhood as soon as he was given a choice. Dean said he was adopted at a very young age and knew how important that choice had been for his life.

The “Supergirl” star revealed how nothing in his life was a bigger factor than having a father who was there to raise him. He felt fathers being in the home was an essential and prominent issue in America and the world.

Christopher Jr.’s father shared how statistics showed how likely a child was, especially male children, to be in trouble or jail if they grew up without a father in their household. That made him realize how important it was that he’d chosen to be there for his son.

Dean confessed that it was a choice he would never change, and it was a no-brainer what he’d go for given the task of choosing between fatherhood and a career. The fruits of his labor show greatness so far, and Christopher Jr. seems well on his way to a good life.
