Boyle looked gorgeous while performing. She wore a blue gown, and her blonde hair was impeccably styled to part in the middle and rest on her shoulders in tiny curls.

The singer’s voice stunned the audience as it did in 2009. She had lost none of her extraordinary stage control and amazing vocals that the audience celebrated as she performed.

Where Did Susan Boyle Disappear To?

After performing, Britain’s Got Talent hosts Dec Donnelly and Ant McPartlin asked Boyle how it felt to be back on the show.

The singer responded, “It is extra special for me actually because last April there, I suffered a minor stroke, and I thought it would be crazy to be back on stage, and I have done it!”

Boyle said the journey back to the spotlight wasn’t easy as she had to fight so hard to get back on stage. “And I have done it,” she added.

The singer noted that her stroke was minor, but it had great effects because it left her speech almost unintelligible. She had to learn how to speak clearly again and got intensive vocal coaching so that she could sing.

According to a source, Boyle had a stroke on April 2022. Her personal assistant Geraldine said goodnight to her on the stroke’s eve and left. However, the next morning, when Geraldine came back to the singer’s house in Blackburn West Lothian, she knew something was wrong.

The audience, and judges, Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan, and Simon Cowell, had already dismissed Boyle due to her awkward appearance.

Geraldine, who often went to breakfast with Boyle, took the singer to the hospital. The source revealed that the singer was able to walk:

“…but had a dropped face and was slurring her words. She was capable of speech, but it was hard to work out what she was saying.”

The “Stand By Me” hitmaker had to spend over a year working on her slurred speech so that she could be able to speak again. She also worked on her drooped face as she was left with significant muscular weakness down one side.

After her stroke, people were worried that the singer, who had sold over 25 million albums in her career, might not sing again.

However, the private speech therapist she hired after she left the hospital helped her get to where she is today. Boyle has been seeing the private speech therapist a few times a week, doing homework in between their visits, and working with her regular vocal coach. The source added:

“She has worked very hard to get to the point where she could perform last night, although we are not quite back to the point she was before the stroke.”

Her management team is also wary and ensures her engagements are paced because the singer’s first stroke puts her at risk of suffering a second one. However, Boyle is positive and believes she will be performing more again.

The source said the “Memory” singer hopes to go on a tour probably in 2024. Her last tour was in March 2020, just before the pandemic lockdown.

After Boyle revealed she had a stroke on stage at Britain’s Got Talent, McPartlin said, “Did you? We’re sorry to hear that, you’re very brave! Simon, lovely to see her back on stage, isn’t it.” Simon responded:

“Unbelievable, Susan, we owe you so much, and I knew you weren’t well, but if anyone was going to come back, you were going to come back because we wouldn’t be the same without you! You are amazing.”

Donnelly said it was great to see Boyle again and to have her back home. It is on the same stage that Boyle propelled her career to become an amazing singer.

Boyle said her success story is for those who don’t have the confidence to do things and those who don’t have a voice. More than a decade after her introduction to the world, she continues being a champion to individuals people intend to ignore.
