Susan Smith, who was convicted for kil**ling her children, expressed deep sadness after being denied parole by a South Carolina board. A person close to her shared that Susan had aspirations of participating in “Dancing With the Stars” or launching an advice blog had she been granted freedom.
Smith, serving a life sentence for the 1994 murders of her two sons, was denied parole last month in her first attempt. Smith strapped 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander into her car and rolled it into John D. Long Lake in Union County, South Carolina, then told authorities a Black man had carjacked her and taken the boys.
But the true story eventually came out, and she was convicted of the boys’ murders.
She has had several suitors while in prison, including one who told The New York Post about her plans for when she was released. That man said he broke away from Smith once news reports surfaced of all the men she was romantically linked with while in prison, although he’d made plans to be with her when and if she got out.
“We would talk about opportunities once she gets out of jail,” he told the Post “We brainstormed a lot; she’d send me letters and talk about her plans if she gets paroled.”
“She thought about some sort of advice blog, or maybe prison reform, or some way that she could be active on social media,” the 60-something man from Michigan said. “She even asked me how she could get on “Dancing with the Stars,” because she said that everyone would watch her.”
But the November 20 parole hearing didn’t go her way. Multiple family members and others connected with the case spoke against parole, while only her pastor and his wife spoke up for her. She can try again in 2026.
“I’ll come back every two years,” said David Smith, Susan Smith’s husband at the time of the murdes and the father of the two boys. “That’s what I’ll do. She didn’t care about Alex and Michael. So she can stay in jail for the rest of her life. She should never get out.”
A source inside Leath Correctional Facility told the Post that Susan Smith has kept to herself since the parole hearing.
“She seems devastated,” the source said. “There’s been a huge change in her demeanor.”
The suitor said Smith “believed it was God’s will to get out” and called her “delusional” and “bad news.”
