Suzanne Somers Sold Long-Time Home Moved to Smaller, Eco-Friendly ‘Oasis’ Where She Battled Cancer Again

Suzanne Somers is an actress, composer, and producer, known for starring in 1977’s “Three’s Company” and 1987’s “She’s the Sheriff.” However, after decades of being on the screens, in July 2023, it was revealed she was taking a break as she fights cancer again.

In the past, the actress, 76, frequently appeared alongside her husband, Alan Hamel, 87, on her popular Facebook Live show, but fans were concerned with her recent absences. Hamel revealed to the press that his wife was away battling health issues.

Hamel opened up about his wife’s battle with cancer, revealing “Suzanne has lived with cancer all her life.” According to him, as early as her 20s, Somers was already in “the waiting room for cancer” after being diagnosed with two severe hyperplasia in her uterus. In her 30s, she had skin cancer on her back, then she battled breast cancer in her 50s. The “Step By Step” star also had a hysterectomy years ago.

More recently, Hamel revealed the actress “dealt with her cancer once again” but as of June 6, 2023, she was cleared of it. However, they remain vigilant in monitoring the disease. Luckily, Somers has someone exceptional by her side who’s supporting her through and through.

On July 31, 2023, Somers uploaded a lovely photo of herself and her husband snuggling in their Palm Springs, California home. The image showed a cozy background that looked like the couple’s bedroom.

In her caption, the star calls herself a fighter in the midst of her battle against breast cancer and revealed how she’s been using alternative and conventional treatments to beat the disease. She also expressed how fortunate she is to have her husband by her side all the way.

She commended him for all he’s done for her and confessed that they are now closer than ever. The celebrity also credited the support of her family, who kept her business afloat. She thanked her fans for their love and support before declaring her love for them.

Somers and her husband have been together for more than four decades and going strong! One of the ways they kept the spark alive was by giving each other lots of attention, hugging, and sometimes, Somers would rub her husband’s hair! The actress shared how Hamel would often tell her she’s beautiful, and they hold hands all through the night while sleeping!

Apart from the support of her husband, Somers also revealed one of the reasons she is still alive is the organic and chemical-free life she has chosen to live.

Hamel’s wife, who uses bioidentical hormones, started putting sleep first, eating only organic food, and cutting chemicals out of her life. Since her 2000 breast cancer diagnosis, she doesn’t eat any food with chemicals, nor does she use beauty products with chemicals.

In different Instagram posts this year, fans get a glimpse of the star’s home, showing how modern and welcoming it is despite being eco-friendly.

Somers said embracing health has led her to a more enjoyable life. She feels she has energy, wisdom, and perspective, knowing that aging could be excellent with the right approach and some work.

In the midst of Somers’ health issues, the couple decided to set her work aside as she focuses on regaining her health. Somers and her husband even relocated to a smaller home a few years back, and it has all the elements of healthy living.

In May 2021, it was reported that Somers and Hamel had sold their Palm Springs, California home where they lived for 44 years since 1977. In the past, fans were treated to images of the decades-old Palm Springs mansion they parted with, including the original dipping pool, waterfall, and pond.

In 2007, the duo also owned a Malibu oceanfront cottage, but when a fire burned it down, they left the land empty before selling it for $12.03 million in 2016. According to a report, the couple had spent $10 million to acquire the mansion.

After selling their Palm Springs property, the couple was said to be moving to a much smaller home since their children and grandchildren didn’t come around much. The couple described the new home located near their old home as “sexy,” and revealed they were turning it into “an ecological oasis.”

Hamel revealed that they were making the home “as green as possible,” with balanced and perfect air quality and drywalling that didn’t use chemicals. The house is equipped with solar power, has an organic garden, and other eco-friendly amenities.

On May 6, 2023, fans got to see part of the new house in a clip posted by the actress for Mother’s Day. Glass windows giving a background view of mountains and greenery, were visible behind Somers.

In different other posts, the inside of the star’s new home was seen, showing how modern and welcoming it is despite being eco-friendly. It features a garden with a swimming pool and lounging chairs to enjoy the sun.

The home’s sitting area and part of the kitchen also appeared in some clips. For 2022’s Thanksgiving, Somers‘ kitchen and her modern appliances and utensils were in full view as she prepared a meal, and her fancy cutlery was on display as the food was showcased on the table.

What looked like a piano peeked from the background in another post where the star celebrated her birthday and was presented with a cake. In December 2022, fans saw Hamel and his wife’s Christmas tree while she was doing a promo for some of her beauty products. The garden and living room were featured in that clip too.
