Tabitha’s dad is English, and her mother is Chinese. The pair broke up for a while after she was born. Even though Hugh missed his daughter’s birthday, he said he liked her and that she changed his life.

Tabitha’s parents reunited briefly and welcomed their second child soon after. Despite having two kids together, their love escapades have been termed fleeting affairs.

Tabitha’s Chinese Name Means ‘Happy Surprise’

When Tabitha was born, her parents agreed to give her both English and Chinese names, Tabitha Jīng Xǐ. Although Tabitha’s father was unfamiliar with the Chinese language, he said he was trying to learn it and had a book for beginners.

In 2012, during an appearance on “TheEllenShow,” Tabitha’s father explained the reason behind his daughter’s Chinese name and added that the word meant a “happy surprise.”

Paternal pride is something Tabitha’s father cherished when he said reproducing was one of the main functions on the planet. In 2012, he recalled how he felt proud of fatherhood when he took Tabitha to visit her grandfather in the hospital.

Tabitha’s Parents Were Hounded by Paparazzi

According to reports, Tabitha’s father’s mixed feelings toward his own success may have played a role in his problems with the press. His refusal to follow the approved script for movie stars was taken as ungrateful by the tabloids.

Because of his troubles with the press, Tabitha’s father missed attending his daughter’s birth. He disclosed that he had a short fling with Tabitha’s mother, Tinglan Hong, and didn’t visit her at the hospital because the paparazzi kept hounding him.

The actor said he feared attracting the inevitable media circus. In an attempt to protect his privacy from the paparazzi, Hugh gave Leveson inquiry a statement describing incidents of alleged intrusion concerning the birth of his daughter and how the media had treated Tabitha’s mother.

According to the documents, Hong was four months pregnant when the media published a story with both of their photos and referred to her as “Hughs Secret Girl.” Hugh explained that they had no idea about the pictures.

Three months after John was born, Tabitha’s mother welcomed a baby boy named Felix Chang Hong Grant.

Tabitha’s parents never commented on the story after it was published, and neither were they contacted to allow them to maintain their privacy or correct any errors.

After a few weeks, Tabitha’s mom, living alone at the time, was frightened because of constant stalking by a photographer who would get close enough to take photos of her.

In one incident, Tabitha’s mother received several phone calls from an unknown number; upon picking up, she heard a man’s voice ordering her to tell Hugh to be silent. The following day, she told Hugh about the matter, who then discussed the issue with his lawyer.

The statement was written nine days after the media leaked the story. In an effort to restrain the paparazzi, Hugh’s lawyer thought it would be best to get photos of them and their registration number plates.

Tabitha’s grandmother responded to the situation by taking photos of one photographer who parked outside their house. Upon learning they were on his radar, he drove away speedily, almost deliberately hurting her in the process.

To protect themselves from the media chaos, Hugh’s lawyer had to apply for an injunction against the photographers taking photos of Tabitha and her mom. Tabitha’s dad also hired a security guard stationed outside their house to protect them whenever they stepped out.

Three months after John was born, Tabitha’s mother welcomed a baby boy named Felix Chang Hong Grant. The two parted ways after Felix’s birth, and Hugh continued his relationship with Eberstein.

In December 2015, Hugh and Anna welcomed their second child, a daughter, but they didn’t publicly disclose her name. The award-winning actor became a dad of five in 2018 when he welcomed another daughter with Eberstein. Again, the couple didn’t reveal the baby’s name.
