When a woman chose to divorce her husband over his infidelity, she lost custody of her daughter. As time passed, the daughter refused to see the woman, believing she was bad. It wasn’t until the girl had no more money to pay for college that she reconnected with her mom.

A woman who married a wealthy man believed she was lucky to have someone lend a helping hand to her family. Not only would he spoil her parents with luxurious gifts, but he also paid off her sister’s credit card debts and connected her brother to a good company that hired him with a high offer.

Her husband was well-loved by his in-laws and was often on his side during challenging times in their marriage, including the first time he cheated. At the time, the woman had just given birth to their child, Kelly. She was vulnerable yet wanted to leave her husband.

However, her family persuaded her to forgive the man. They used Kelly as a reason to stay, saying that the kid needed to grow up in a stable household with two parents. The woman listened to her family and stayed. She also made herself believe she couldn’t be the best wife then because she was pregnant.

When Kelly was around 12, her husband cheated on her for the second time. At that point, she was determined to file for a divorce. Her in-laws disagreed because they wanted to avoid a scandal involving their family. Her parents had the same sentiments, as they didn’t want to lose access to her husband’s kindness and generosity.

Still, she filed for divorce and, in the process, lost her child’s custody. Her husband had the means to hire the best lawyers and even had his in-laws’ support. On her end, the woman received alimony and a good settlement.

She tried to keep in contact with her daughter and had visiting hours. However, her in-laws and her parents painted her as a bad person to Kelly. They told her that her mother was a hypocrite for refusing to forgive her dad despite being sorry. As a result, when Kelly became a teen, she was convinced her mother was terrible and refused to see the woman.

Through the tough times, the woman found comfort in her best friend, Tina. She described Tina as her confidant and rock, claiming she may not have made it through without her friend. As years passed, the woman kept reaching out to her daughter.

While the woman agreed to support her daughter’s grad school tuition, Kelly had to sign a contract giving up her position as her mom’s heir, as noted in the woman’s will.

She also focused on rebuilding her life, studied accountancy, and landed a high-paying job. Unfortunately, her ex-husband had the opposite luck. Besides being fired, he was sued by one of the employees. Although in financial trouble, he never changed his lifestyle and used up all his money, including Kelly’s college tuition.

The Woman Wanted to Leave Her Assets to Her Goddaughter, Not Her Daughter

At that point, Kelly wanted to reconnect with her mother. “I won’t lie and say that I wasn’t hurt at the idea of her only wanting contact was for my money,” she said. While the woman agreed to support her daughter’s grad school tuition, Kelly had to sign a contract giving up her position as her mom’s heir, as noted in the woman’s will.

The woman wanted most of her estate and assets to go to Tina’s daughter, Laura, who was more like a daughter in the past years. Laura is also her goddaughter.

Her relatives believe the woman’s request may harm her relationship with Kelly. However, the woman doesn’t want to feel like her relationship with Kelly is superficial and based on money.

Was the mom right to leave all that she owned to her goddaughter? Or should she have left everything to her daughter, who only wanted to reconnect after having no money left for tuition?

A woman had a similar story when she left her husband, a poor farmer, and their son for a wealthy man. A decade later, she returned asking for money.
