Teen Wakes up after 4-Day Coma, Discovers She Gave Birth to a Baby

One moment Ebony Stevenson was just your typical teenager. Then, almost literally overnight, her whole world turned upside down. How would this young lady react, and how could this even happen?

Imagine blacking out only to open your eyes and have your whole life change instantly. In December of 2018, 18-year-old Stevenson from Oldham, from Greater Manchester, experienced this a few days after she was rushed to the hospital. 

This teen needed to be taken to a medical facility because she had multiple seizures. Placed in an induced coma, medics and the mom alike were shocked at what was truly going on with Stevenson.

RISE-AND-SHINE

The teenager awoke to a foreign reality three days later as they lay a stranger’s newborn on her chest. She recalled: 

“I asked them to take her away as I was so confused and sure they’d made a mistake.” 

However, her mother, 39-year-old Sheree, explained the situation to her as the nurses handed Stevenson the little girl again. She was now looking into the innocent eyes of her baby daughter Elodie. 

A SMITTEN MOTHER

Stevenson hadn’t shown any pregnancy signs, from losing her period to growing a bump. So, although she had not planned to have a child, she was utterly taken in by her newborn. She stated: 

“Meeting my baby was so surreal. It felt like an out-of-body experience.”

She said that she had anxiety at the time about bonding with her child but that everything worked out in the end, calling her little one “amazing.” 

STRANGER THINGS

Stevenson’s seizures were due to a condition called preeclampsia. Meanwhile, the reason she showed no symptoms of pregnancy was that she has uterus didelphys.

This means she has two uteruses. Only one could carry eggs, which is where the unborn Elodie, who grew to full term, hid. 

Stevenson’s experience shows us that while life may throw curveballs our way, not all of them are negative. Sometimes we need to wake up to the blessings staring us right in the face.

BEYOND BELIEF

Even though rare for her uterus didelphys condition, Stevenson still got pregnant – an incredible and unlikely conception.

Simultaneously, many women struggle to have children but, like this teenager, experience almost unbelievable pregnancies. 

Miranda and Josh Crawford turned to IVF after they couldn’t conceive naturally. As a result, Miranda gave birth to a little girl in 2009. After this, they tried for more but faced a miscarriage. 

So, opting for IVF again, two embryos were implanted, and Miranda fell pregnant with twins. However, this is one when it got strange. 

During an ultrasound, they found she had another set of twins! Two girls were in one placenta while two boys were in a separate one. 

These stories remind us that peculiar occurrences happen daily, although we think we know a lot. So, if we keep our minds closed, we may not be ready for what could come next.
