Lilibet “Lili” Diana celebrated her first birthday in the UK as she joined her parents on their trip for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. On June 3, 2022, the couple made their first public appearance in the UK.

They had attended a thanksgiving service for the Queen at St Paul’s Cathedral. They were also seen watching Trooping the Colour from a window and were not part of the carriage procession or part of the working royals who stood on the balcony.

On June 4, 2022, Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter, Lilibet Diana, turned one, and to celebrate her birthday, they had a backyard picnic at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Their family friend and photographer Misan Harriman captured the moment and shared a picture of the birthday girl smiling into the camera while seated on the grass.

DOES LILI HAVE A ROYAL TITLE?

Harry’s daughter’s full name is Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Lilibet is the Queen’s family nickname, and it was initially used when Princess Elizabeth was a toddler and couldn’t speak her name correctly.

Her grandfather, King George V, called her “Lilibet,” emulating her attempts to say “Elizabeth.” The term stuck, and she became Lilibet to her family. The Duke of Edinburgh also referred to his bride by this name.

Harry’s daughter’s middle name, Diana, honors his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who would have turned 60 on July 1, 2022, if she hadn’t died in 1997 in a car accident when Harry was only 12 years old.

Diana is the name of the Roman goddess of fertility, childbirth, hunting, and the moon, and it derives from an Indo-European root word that means “divine.” The surname Mountbatten-Windsor was created in 1960 by uniting the Queen’s and Prince Philip’s surnames when they married.

Lili presently is without a title as her parents did not include any in her birth announcement. They also did not have any for her brother, Archie. However, this appears to be a personal preference rather than a royal protocol requirement.

Archie is technically entitled to the title Earl of Dumbarton, but his parents chose not to use it. According to Victoria Murphy, T&C contributing editor, and royal expert, the children are entitled to use titles as they are children of a Duke.

Lili is entitled to use the courtesy title Lady before her name, just as Archie is allowed to use Earl of Dumbarton. However, when Harry and Meghan announced their baby’s names to the world, they chose not to use these titles.

WHAT IS THE FULL NAME OF ARCHIE?

Lili also has an older brother whom her parents named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Archie means “bold,” “genuine,” or “brave” — and is more prevalent in Britain than in the US.

It was initially an abbreviated form of Archibald, but it is now frequently used as a standalone name. Harrison is somewhat more popular than Archie in the United States.

Although it remained more popular in the United Kingdom and was voted the 34th most popular boy’s name in 2017, and, rather appropriately, Harrison — initially used as a surname — means “son of Harry.”
