Melissa Claire Egan knows that her character Chelsea Newman has been to hell and back, but she’s never dealt with anything like this before. According to the latest episode of “The Young and the Restless,” Chelsea’s suicide crisis has had everyone on edge as even fans have never seen her in such a fragile state, per Soap Dirt. That has even prompted actor Melissa Claire Egan to take to her Instagram account to reveal just how important this storyline has meant to her.
Calling it a humbling experience, Egan wrote, “I’m grateful and honored to be able to tell this story, hopefully in a respectful and responsible way. Mental health is so important and depression is something that affects so many, and does not discriminate. Please know you are loved and not alone.”
Thankfully, Billy Abbott rescues Chelsea Newman just in time, as detailed by Soaps, but this is still all part of Chelsea’s story that Egan knows needs to be told.
If you or anyone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
