Tributes have been paid to a young man who died when a car crashed into a ditch just off the M62.
Mason Portman has been named locally and in social media posts following the tragic crash in the early hours of Sunday morning. West Yorkshire Police said the crash happened just off the motorway, near to Rishworth.
Officers were called at 6.15am to a report of a black Seat Leon that had been found in a ditch off the A672 at junction 22. Images showed other cars on the road damaged by the impact of a crash and a body was found nearby and pronounced dead at the scene.

Since the tragic news broke people on social media have shared reports of the accident and paid tribute to Mason. Lea Hughes posted: “Aww absolutely heartbreaking. RIP Mason Portman.”
Jade Louise Gledhill posted a red love heart with the words: “Rest in peace Mason Portman.” Jed Beanland shared an image of Mason and wrote on Facebook: “Absolutely heartbroken seeing you grow from 12 years old when I met you to a proper good man. Always been a good loyal friend and a great laugh, literally training together the other day. Life is so cruel, rest in peace Mason love you brother.”
And Lila Faulding wrote: “MP You have literally flooded my Facebook. Just goes to show how much you were loved. Such a kind hearted caring lad. I will cherish our friendship & memories forever. My heart goes out to your close friends & family. Soo close to Christmas. Life is too cruel. I can’t believe I’m saying it but may you rest in perfect peace Mason Portman.”
West Yorkshire Police says its Major Collision Enquiry Team would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it. Motorists who were in the area who have dash cams are also being asked to check them to see if they captured any part of the incident.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police, said: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision just off the M62 near Rishworth.
“Officers were called at 6.15am to a report of a black Seat Leon that had been found in a ditch off the A672 at junction 22 of the M62. A man was found nearby who was pronounced deceased by paramedics at the scene. The man’s family have been informed and will be offered support by specially trained officers.
“The Major Collision Enquiry Team would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it. Motorists who were in the area who have dash cams are asked to check them to see if they have captured any part of this incident.
