Judge Lynn Toler, who was the face of the show “Divorce Court” for fourteen years from 2006 to 2020, is facing one of her most challenging life battles yet. Her family suffered a tragedy over the festive season that has left her heartbroken.

Toler and her husband, Eric Mumford, were happily married until two days before Christmas when Toler got some news that would break her heart and change her life in a way she didn’t expect.

While on “Divorce Court” for 14 years, Toler became a household name and people knew that she and her husband shared a unique union that spanned the decades. However, that union came to an end on December 23, 2022, when she learned that her husband had passed away.

The news was awful for Toler and her family, but she chose to keep it private until the new year. News of Mumford’s death was only released to the press on January 4, 2023. Toler affectionately called her husband “The Big E.”

The couple met in 1986, and by 1989 they had tied the knot. Mumford had four children from a previous marriage and welcomed another two with Toler. Their marriage lasted over three decades.

How Did Toler Pay Tribute to Her Husband?

Toler kept her husband’s death quiet for more than ten days after he had passed. On New Year’s Eve, she took to Facebook to share an encouraging message with the world and smiled throughout.

Although the video was a positive one, she did allude to something awful happening to her during the festive season, yet she didn’t reveal what it was at the time. Later, she took to Facebook to share that her husband had passed.

She posted a photo of the pair from when they were younger and laughing. Along with the picture, Toler posted a simple caption saying:

“I will always love you. ALWAYS.”

She then revealed his death date. Fans immediately came to her comfort, sending her condolences and telling her that their love and prayers were with her and her family, as well as Mumford’s children.

One fan was in awe of the fact that even though she was going through such a difficult time, she posted an encouraging video for all her fans to see and go into the new year with a great mindset.

Toler also posted a photo of herself and Mumford on Instagram. She said he was a beautiful man and set the picture to music. She also confessed:

“I am in a million pieces.”

What Kind of Marriage Did the Couple Have?

Although Toler was on “Divorce Court” and is the current host of “Marriage Boot Camp,” she admits that her marriage was not always perfect. She said that she and Mumford had their fair share of marital issues.

She once shared that their relationship was one-sided, which led to rough patches for the pair. However, she combatted this issue by becoming more intentional about the way she communicated with her husband.

Toler revealed that when she began to communicate more effectively, it allowed her husband to do the same, and they ended up patching up their issues in a way that benefitted both of them. She confessed she had to let go of a lot of anger.

She then confirmed that she knew that even though they communicated effectively, she knew they might not get to be together forever. However, she was grateful for their union and said:

“Our marriage is better now because it is a mindful one… We no longer act on that right-now feeling without considering long-term consequences. We have made a conscious decision to be consciously married.”
