The falling numbers is cause for optimism in the fight against Covid, as Brits continue to sign up for their booster shots.

Saturday marked a triumphant day for Britain’s monumental vaccine drive, as 409,663 booster jabs were dished out in the UK yesterday alone.

The number brings the UK’s booster jab total past the 10million mark.

Boris Johnson took to Twitter to share the news, writing: “An amazing 10million people across the UK have already come forward for their booster.

“We know vaccine immunity wanes over time, so boosters are vital in keeping you and your loved ones protected through the winter.

“Please get this lifesaving jab as soon as you are called.”

It comes as the Prime Minister admitted that “too many” elderly people are ending up in hospital with Covid.

He also warned that Britain faces a “tough winter”, and he wants to avoid “excessive” pressure on the NHS.

Boris urged more people to come forward for their booster jabs, saying that the UK has “got to get those numbers up.

The PM said that 70% of over-80s and 73% of 75-79-year-olds have currently come forward for the third dose.

From today, Brits can book their Covid booster jab a month before they were previously eligible.

The system has been changed to make sure everyone with wanting protection against Covid is topped up as soon as possible.
