As the confirmation process unfolded amidst strong disagreements, doubts arose about the future of his nomination, especially regarding Senator Bill Cassidy’s stance. Cassidy, a physician himself, was key to securing necessary support.
Following speeches by various senators, which included remarks from Senate Finance Chair Mike Crapo and Ranking Member Ron Wyden, the crucial vote took place on Tuesday morning.
Cassidy voted aye, as did the other Republicans on the committee, and Kennedy was passed out of the Senate Finance Committee 14-13.

Kennedy’s nomination will now proceed to the Senate floor. As with the other nominees, he can only afford to lose three Republican votes, but as it stands at present, it appears fairly likely he will be confirmed.
