Veteran Returns from Deployment, Finds His House Empty His Pregnant Wife Gone

When a soldier returned home after nine months of deployment, he expected to meet his wife and ask her why she wasn’t in touch after he left. Instead, he was shocked upon seeing his house empty and had no idea where his wife was.

Being a part of the armed forces, people know they wouldn’t get to spend much time with their families, especially if deployed during a war. They have to stay away from home for days, unaware of whether they will return safely.

The man in today’s story was in the military and had to go to another country during a war, leaving his wife alone at home. It was difficult for him to say goodbye to her before his flight, but he hoped to write letters to her. However, things took a strange turn after he left his home country.

A Redditor with the username SliverFoxMindCap wrote a detailed post in the cheating_stories subreddit, sharing an incident from about two decades ago. He wanted to find out what other people would have done in his situation.

The man was 23 when he was about to leave for deployment, while his wife was 28. He said he didn’t have a “healthy marriage” with her, and there were a lot of negative things about her that he had ignored. He recalled being frequently intimate with her soon after learning about his Iraq deployment, adding:

“Fast forward to deployment day, and we’re both a mess, I’m sure you can imagine.”

Three months after deployment, the military gave him and his fellow soldiers a satellite phone and set up mail to communicate with their families. Excited to talk to his wife, the man called her, but she didn’t answer. He called her a few more times to no avail.

Soon, his fellow soldiers began receiving mail and packages from their families, but the man didn’t receive anything. He waited for his wife to write to him or send something special, but no mail with his name was in the mailbox. When other soldiers learned about it, they shared their things with him to make him feel comfortable.

“9 Months in and still no letters, packages, or phone calls from my wife, and at this point, I was mentally not in a good place,” the man recounted. Soon, he was asked to go home, but he didn’t know why until he reached his house.

To his surprise, his house was empty, and his wife had disappeared. Everything, including his clothes, had vanished. Feeling clueless, he talked to one of his neighbors and learned that his wife had invited another man to their place and lived with him for four months. Soon, rumors regarding her pregnancy surfaced, and she moved to another location.

While living with another man, OP’s (Original Poster’s) wife used his bank account to fulfill their financial needs. She would withdraw cash from his account every time his salary was credited, leaving only a few bucks behind. Moreover, she didn’t make the monthly car payments, and the authorities eventually took OP’s car away.

“I saw her for about 10 minutes before out-processing from the military. At that time, she decided to let me know she was having twins, and obviously, they weren’t mine,” the man shared in his Reddit post.

Knowing that his wife cheated on him was a massive shock for the man. He never thought she would invite another man into their house and spend all his hard-earned money. Learning that his wife, the only person close to him, had abandoned him and fled with all his belongings was a heartbreaking experience for the man. He revealed that he had lost about 50 lbs a month after the incident because of stress and poor eating and sleeping habits.

Eventually, the man was admitted to a mental hospital. His wife, about seven months pregnant, visited him during his stay and told him what she had done behind his back. He recalled:

“She had moved him in 2 weeks after I was deployed, and the affair had been going on for a year.”

Feeling angry and heartbroken, the man asked her why she cheated on him, to which she replied, “I wasn’t happy.” Hearing those words made the man realize he wanted to leave the mental hospital as soon as possible.

As a result, he began hiding his true feelings from the doctors, pretending he was okay. They let him go two months later because they thought he was doing fine, unaware that his life would soon go downhill.

After leaving the hospital, the man learned that his then-wife had been leaving about $300 in his account instead of taking all his monthly salary. Instead of saving money or improving his lifestyle, the man spent it on alcohol and clubs, further deteriorating his mental health.

About two months later, it was time for the man to leave the military. Leaving the army meant he didn’t have to pay anything to his wife from the salary he would get the next day. He was relieved that she wouldn’t get his money anymore, but this wasn’t the end of his story.

Admitting that he should have divorced her earlier, the man said he received divorce papers two years after he left the army. At that time, he was dating his now-wife, so he went to court with her and his father. Over there, he saw his ex-wife, who was seemingly jealous upon seeing another woman beside him.

Before attending the court hearing, the man had researched and found a way to take revenge. He remembered that his ex was married before tying the knot with him, and the paperwork showed she got divorced from her first husband four days after marrying OP. When the judge learned about it, OP’s ex was charged with polygamy. The man felt relieved to see his ex plead in court.

In the last part of his post, the man shared that he tied the knot with his now-wife two years later, and they welcomed a baby boy together. He now lives happily with his wife, and the last time he heard about his ex was from his father when he saw her with her kids at a bus stop.

Although the man went through some of the worst days of his life in the mental hospital and during the two months after his release, he finally found happiness with his new partner.
