A viral video star from Huddersfield has been hospitalised with a terrifying mystery illness which has left doctors baffled.

Tristan Simmonds memorably shot to fame back in 2014 on social media platform Vine with the iconic ‘I’m In My Mum’s Car, vroom vroom’ video. Tristan has since continued to make content and has bravely shared his jounrey with fans after transitioning back in 2021.

Last week it was revealed that the star had been rushed to hosptial a few days after feeling unwell, with swolen eyes, a swolen mouth and spots. Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the Huddersfield internet sensation revealed he was still strugging to talk but was back home and recovering with cat Jasper.

Tristan said: “It all started a week before being taken to hospital, I was just feeling unwell and had swelling of the eyes and mouth and spots appearing. I first went to hospital and was given antibiotics but three days later I was admitted to hospital again and then transferred to Sheffield specialist infection unit.

“I had swelling of mouth and rash on my body, plus both eyes were blood shot and I had scabbing over them. The doctors ran tests and my family and friends weren’t allowed to visit me for a bit.

“Even though the hospital couldn’t really work out what it could be, the treatment they were giving me seemed to be working slowly and I started to feel a bit better. I couldn’t eat or drink properly and was very weak for a couple days and it was worrying time, not only for my parents and my godfather Darren, but friends too.

“I was so glad to be able to go home yesterday evening after being in hospital for six days. I’m now resting and taking medication and fluids to hopefully fully recover.”

Despite the six day stay in hospital and numberous tests, Tristan said that doctors have still not given him a conclusive diagnosis. Some commenting online had suggested it could be due to his transitional journey but he said that had been considered and dismissed by the medical experts.

Tristan said: “There was talk of it possibly being Steven Johnson Sydrome. That attacks the body but more in the eyes making them bloodshot and sore and inside the mouth making it difficult to swallow and breathe.

“I had lots of comments of people suggesting that may be something to do with testosterone which I’m taking on my trans journey but doctors ruled that out as well as other things including Covid. The doctors couldn’t say exactly what it was, they just had an idea of what they thought it was based of the rare cases that have been dealt with around the UK.

“So no, doctors couldn’t say exactly what it was but the treatment based on what they thought was it was working and I was feeling a little bit better as days went by, not just in myself but as in visibly also. I’m just happy to be home where I can rest and hopefully make a full recovery soon and get back to social media and making more videos and getting back to normal.

“I’m glad to be home in my own bed and even though I’m glad to see my parents, I missed my cat Jasper and was glad to see him and he’s not left my side last night and all day today. And of course I’m happy to be back to home cooked food from my mum as she’s not in her car broom broom!”
