There has been outrage across Sheffield after two teenagers were stabbed inside Meadowhall Shopping Centre on Tuesday evening.

According to South Yorkshire Police, a fight broke out among a group of men who were all known to each other. Two teenagers, both aged 19, were taken to hospital and two men, aged 24 and 20, were arrested.

However, many people across Sheffield have been expressing their outrage at the stabbing, with some calling for tougher sentences. Others have been expressing their fear at the number of stabbings there have been in Sheffield recently.

Christine Gaylor said: “Gets nearer to home all the time. Places you go.” Karen Potts also expressed her anger, saying: “What the hell is going on I this horrendous world we live in. What’s like love and be loved. Why can’t the youths of today have respect.”

Some people, like Siobhan Loveland, expressed their fear for their younger relatives. She said: “I’m dreading my 5 grandchildren growing up and wanting to go places on there own what is are country coming to”.

Jill Schofield expressed a similar sentiment: “Just put my child off going shopping in Manchester thought going to meadowhall would be safer but obviously not!! Maybe chaining him in his bedroom is the only way to keep him safe these days! Sad but true!!”

Paula Blake said she believed that laws needed to be strengthened. She said: “Something needs to be done and quick. Everyday it seems people are losin their life to stabbing. We need stronger laws and fast.”

Meanwhile, Elaine Dunwell added: “What the hell is wrong with folk nowadays !!!

“Honestly I think major punishments need handing out to offenders as they just don’t seem bothered anymore. I fear for my grandson growing up in this world I really do”.

Bob Ak said he believed much of the problem stemmed from inequality in the UK. He wrote: “Inequality creates suppressed anger, which at some point will manifest in one way or another.”

Kerry Bailey added: “Everyone blames the government and police, yet these little thugs grow up at home…its down to the parents, social media, TV, music…society are too separated compared to how it use to be…nobody wants to be involved giving the kids power x”.

Meadowhall have also released a statement on the stabbing. A spokesperson for Meadowhall, said: “A section of Upper High Street was closed yesterday evening due to an isolated police incident. The safety of our visitors, colleagues and retail partners is our number one priority, the area has now fully reopened and the centre is operating as normal.

“We are working in full collaboration with the South Yorkshire Police to assist in their investigation.”
