What Relationship Did Winona Ryder and Johnny Depp Have?

No matter your opinion on the trial, there is no denying that, at one point in Hollywood, Johnny Depp and his “Edward Scissorhands” flame were the talk of Tinseltown. 

People have been twiddling their thumbs and logging onto YouTube every five minutes, hoping for a verdict for the highly televised case between Depp and Amber Heard.

In the interval, Depp took to the stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 30, 2022, with rock guitarist Jeff Beck.

Meanwhile, the jury works hard to deliberate over a highly challenging case. There are many factors that the jurors have to consider for both sides of the defamation suit. 

During the trial, a purported incident between Heard and Depp came up where she laughed at the tattoo that Depp had in honor of one of his past partners, Winona Ryder. The ink originally read “Winona Forever,” but he changed it to “Wino Forever” after splitting.

WINONA RYDER AND JOHNNY DEPP: THEIR UNFORGOTTEN LOVE STORY 

Depp and Ryder were a 90’s “It” couple. They began dating in the late 1980s after meeting one another at the “Great Balls of Fire” movie premiere.

The two were head over heels and got engaged only a few months into the relationship. But, they never got to walk down the aisle because, by 1993, they had gone their separate ways.

WHY DID WINONA RYDER AND JOHNNY DEPP BREAK UP? 

Many were attached to this couple, so fans’ hearts were broken when they split, wondering why their favorite pair were no longer together. Ryder said she was in deep pain over the breakup.

Tim Burton, who directed them in the cult classic “Edward Scissorhands,” said that it felt as if Depp had disappeared entirely after the split in that he wasn’t himself.

Years later, at 58 years old, Depp told Rolling Stone that nothing comes close to the feelings he had for Ryder.

In what “The Stranger Things” actress labeled her first real heartbreak, her representative claimed that the situation was not complex. She stated that the two young stars had simply drifted from one another. 

But, Depp told another story, stressing that consistently living in the public eye negatively affected their relationship. He implied that this was the reason for the breakup, stating that he regrets not being more private.

WINONA RYDER’S TAKE ON THE ABUSE ALLEGATIONS. 

Decades after their relationship ended, Ryder spoke out about the abuse allegations against Depp, expressing surprise at the accusations.

While she said she didn’t want to claim anyone was lying, the actress felt it strange because these claims that her ex-lover was so far from what she experienced with him.

WHO IS WINONA RYDER DATING NOW?

While she and Depp shared a beautiful relationship and based on her speaking up for him, she does care about the Willy Wonka star; the actress has undoubtedly moved on romantically. 

Ryder and fashion designer Scott Mackinlay has been dating for over a decade. He co-founded a line called Loomstate, which is meant to be socially aware and green.
