Fox has found quite the success pursuing former NFL players to join their broadcast, with Tony Romo becoming an instant hit shortly after his retirement. Then, Greg Olsen drew plenty of praise for his in-game commentary and analysis, proving that he was tailor-made for that kind of job.
Notably, however, Olsen might have to find a new network or a different line of work in 2024, as recently-retired Tom Brady will take the booth for the first of his 10-year commitment to be the network’s new analyst.
Fox didn’t waste a single second after Brady’s first retirement. They made him a Godfather-like offer of a whopping $375 million over ten years, plenty of cash for a guy that has zero experience in that field.
For a man that, was on the ClutchBet odds favorites for MVP of the season for many years in a row, it’s normal Brady wants to take some time to prepare for this new endeavor. Now that he’s retired for good, he told Colin Cowherd that he’ll take a year to decompress, get some rest, spend some time with his family, and start taking notes for this new challenge in his professional life:
“Decompression’s important,” Brady said. “You’re on this kind of really crazy treadmill/hamster wheel for a long time, loving the moment, loving the journey. At the same time, it’s a daily fight. … I have an appreciation for so many people that are so committed every day to show up to put their max effort into their life and their career. And I think for me, I want to be great at what I do.”
As great as Brady was on the gridiron, some are worried about this transition. We all saw Drew Brees’ cringeworthy broadcasts and how he left the booth shortly after becoming an analyst, and being a great player doesn’t exactly mean you’ll be a great analyst.
Brady is one of the most competitive human beings to ever grace the face of the Earth, and you know he doesn’t take criticism lightly. He wants to be the absolute best at every single thing he does, and that includes this next step in his career, which is why he’ll take some time to get better and learn the ropes of this business:
“Take some time to really learn, become great at what I want to do, become great at thinking about the opportunity and making sure I don’t rush into anything,” the legendary QB added.
Brady has never been the one to do things halfhearted. In fact, that’s what may have cost him his marriage to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen this season, as he refused to walk away from the game because he felt like he still had some more left in the tank and more to give to this sport.
So, it’s only natural to see that he’s taking that very same approach with his broadcasting career, which is also why he didn’t feel comfortable committing to join Fox’s booth right away for the upcoming NFL season.
“One thing about my career, whether [it] was when I was drafted by the Patriots or signed in free agency with the Bucs, I wanted to be fully committed, and I never wanted to let people down,” Brady said. “I think my biggest motivator was that.”
Tom Brady will most likely go down as the greatest quarterback of all time, and his seven Super Bowl rings will be nearly impossible to match. So, if he’s even half as good as an analyst as he was at playing QB, then he’s got absolutely nothing to worry about in the next decade.
