Who Are Joe Alwyn’s Brothers Patrick and Tom Alwyn? They Prefer Privacy

Though Joe Alwyn’s brothers are a lesser-known part of the actor’s life, the pair has generated much interest among fans. Apart from their close relationship with Joe’s partner, Taylor Swift, one of them also went public with his romance with a young Hollywood star.

English native Joe Alwyn drew his first breath in Tunbridge Wells but grew up in North London. He took a keen interest in acting as a teenager, joining the National Youth Theater in 2009. He attained a BA degree in English Literature and Drama at the University of Bristol in 2012 and a subsequent BA in Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2015.

The actor, also a musician like his beau, hailed from a family of accomplished professionals. His paternal relatives particularly excelled in the arts. His father, Richard Alwyn, is a documentary filmmaker; his grandfather, Jonathan Alwyn, was known as a director and producer; his great-grandfather, William Alwyn, gained acclaim as a composer, conductor, and music teacher.

However, a lesser-known part of Joe’s family is his brothers, Patrick and Thomas Alwyn, who have shied away from the spotlight. They have guarded their personal lives, but it appears the mystery they’ve preserved only garners more curiosity among fans.

Joe Has Two Brothers Who Prefer to Remain Private

Patrick and Thomas have a social media presence, as they possess Instagram accounts, both of which Joe follows. However, the posts from both profiles were hidden behind the privacy setting at the time of writing. Patrick’s IG profile (@patrickalwyn.03) had accumulated over 400 followers, while Tom’s (@tomalywn) boasted over 1.7K followers.

Joe Reportedly Had Family Lunch with His Brothers and Taylor Swift

Joe and Taylor Swift (who previously dated Tom Hiddleston and Jake Gyllenhaal) had been dating since 2016, when they stepped out for a Sunday lunch in New York City in December 2018. Photos showed the couple cuddled up as they walked to the restaurant, where Patrick and Thomas reportedly joined the two. However, no images depicted Joe’s brothers with the couple that day.

That same month, paparazzi photos of Taylor and Joe leaving an establishment, with one of Joe’s brothers following behind, went around the internet. One Twitter user expressed frustration that they couldn’t identify whether it was Patrick or Tom.

The following year in August, another swooned, “patrick alwyn pls take me out and take me home [heart eyes emoji] (sic).” Earlier in 2019, news broke that Patrick was dating Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann‘s daughter — Maude Apatow‘s younger sister — Iris Apatow. The young actress had shared a photo of herself and Patrick embracing in September 2018.

Joe’s Brothers Seem to Have Had a Good Relationship with Taylor

According to a source, in March 2018, Taylor had a warm relationship with Joe’s family; the “Wildest Dreams” singer would frequently visit and spend quality time with them at their London home. The insider added, “His brothers [Patrick and Thomas] all seem to be fans of them together as they’ve hung out with Taylor and Joe on several occasions.”

In October 2017, Patrick joined Taylor when she visited a fan‘s house. There, the pair documented the encounter during an Instagram live, during which the audience witnessed them listening to Taylor’s then-unreleased tune “King of My Heart” and gifting the said fan merchandise from her then-unreleased studio album, “Reputation.”

In 2020, amid the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Taylor released “peace,” where she sang, “Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other/Family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother.” Although the songstress never revealed if she dedicated the cited lyrics to Joe and his brothers, it is likely.
