Tom Wlaschiha just clocked 49! The actor is now famous for playing Dmitri “Enzo” Antonov on “Stranger Things,” but before he landed the role, Tom Wlaschiha played a role in “Game of Thrones” — here are some details about his theatrical past.

Tom Wlaschita turns 49 today, and his appearance as a Russian prison guard in the fourth season of “Stranger Things” has prompted interest in his personal life.

His character in the hit series is known as Dmitri “Enzo” Antonov, and his alliance with Hopper initially started as a monetary one that sees him ransom Hopper to Joyce for $40,000.

Of course, as things progress, the two end up going up against a Demogorgon together, and because nothing bonds humans together faster than having to face death side by side, the two quickly become more than mere monetary allies.   

His character has become fairly popular since the fourth season’s debut, but that is mostly because before he became an ally to Hopper, he played a fan favorite in another mega-hit series known as “Game of Thrones.”

Wlaschiha was born in 1973 in Dohna, Dresden, East Germany, and at age 17, he achieved his dream of flying in a plane that took him to Massachusetts, where he was visiting as an exchange student. He would later admit it was the best time of his life. 

Before “Stranger Things,” he achieved fame and recognition for portraying Jaqen H’ghar on “Game of Thrones.” His debut on the hit franchise was in season 2, but he later reprised his role in the fifth and sixth seasons of the show. 

Besides “Game of Thrones” and “Stranger Things,” his resume also includes roles in major shows and films, including Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan” however, not many know that the multi-lingual actor’s origins are steeped in the German theater district.

In 2018, he expressed his love for theater arts, referring to it as a different film technique while pointing out that it was where his journey began. He said

“I love theater; this is where I am coming from basically. It’s a different technique in the film; you have to find a form of what you’re playing, and it allows you to do bigger things on stage than in front of the camera.” 

When Wlachiha is not standing before a camera, he also works as a voice actor. He has been known to lend his skills to the German Ministry of Cooperation to support climate change measures and food security in growing countries.

After his stint as “a man who has no name” in “Game of Thrones,” Wlaschiha has featured in Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan,” NBC’s “Crossing Lines,” and films like “Rush” and “Berlin Falling.”

His role as Dmitri on “Stranger Things” is one of his latest appearances on TV, and given his history on GoT and acting skills, fans love his character.
