A Yorkshire country pub is celebrating after being named as one of the best spots in the UK for a Sunday roast.
The Times has asked some of the UK’s best chefs to compile a list of the best pubs and restaurants for a Sunday roast. Andrew Pern, owner of the Star Inn at Harome, North Yorkshire has sung the praises of The Abbey Inn – based near Byland Abbey.
“This country pub is in a wonderful location opposite the ruins of Byland Abbey,” Andrew explained. “It’s owned by the Banks family of the Black Swan at Oldstead and a lot of the produce is grown and reared just up the road at their farm, including the pigs and beef that make up the roasts of the day.

“They are partnered with suitably stuffed toads in the hole — pig cheek or braised oxtail respectively — and great seasonal veg from the farm. What they offer is great — even the background music is class.”
Some of the highlights of the Abbey Inn’s Sunday menu include roast pork and roast beef as well as Charlotte potato and chestnut mushroom wellington. You can find out more here.
