Angry with Kyrie Irving, Jewish NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement that he will speak with the Nets point guard face-to-face the following week to discuss the matter.

“Kyrie Irving made a reckless decision to post a link to a film containing deeply offensive antisemitic material,” Silver said.

“While we appreciate the fact that he agreed to work with the Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation league to combat antisemitism and other forms of discrimination, I am disappointed that he has not offered an unqualified apology and more specifically denounced the vile and hateful content contained in the film he chose to publicize.”

Kyrie Irving’s statement was non apologetic

Prior to this, the NBA, Nets, and NBPA all issued statements condemning hate speech and anti-Semitism without mentioning Irving by name.

Irving defended himself at a press conference after his retweet of an anti-Semitic hoax last week, but he then walked it back in a statement with the ADL on Wednesday night.

Both Irving and the Nets vowed $500,000 to stop hate speech, and the Nets added that they will host educational activities at Barclays Center.

Irving did not express an apology for his conduct in the statement, but rather stated that he opposed “all forms of intolerance and tyranny” and was conscious of “the harmful impact of my comments towards the Jewish people.”
